I have to guess that by accident you must have copied one of my comments (from an entirely different thread) and included it in your comment number 7 in this thread.

A moderator seems to amended your posting to remove the erroneous pasting.
Sorry about that, did not know you could even do that, my apologies.

I finally sussed out Marketplace and how to place ads without any cost involved. Thanks for the advice.

I've got a few things to sell and its been years since I sold anything on Ebay. Back then it all went through Paypal but now it seems like you have to give your bank details to Ebay.

Seems like they don't take a cut of the final transaction but sting you for all the little extras when listing the item.

I've been reading through the T&Cs and slowly losing the will to live :)

Isn't it possible to select an option when selling to have 'No Returns' ?

Doubt anyone is interested but two items I have are my Recurve Archery Set and an 8mm lens for a Canon dSLR. Special 'mates rates' :)

Unfortunately under UK law you cannot prevent returns under distance selling regulations even to private listings stating no returns.

Its even simpler if the goods supplied do not match the description in the listing.

Worthy of note is Ebay's "Used" where the detail of the category states

"Used

An item that has been previously used. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or an item that has been returned to the seller after a period of use. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections"

I have had to return several items where despite the listing saying no returns the part of the "used" statement "but is fully operational and functions as intended." was not the case so the goods were not as described"

Seller are sometimes grumpy about it, but they should ensure the listing is accurate before posting.

I refuse to give eBay my bank details. Prefer cash on delivery, but then they cannot sting the buyer for a £6 protection fee. If you do sell, the buyer can take away the goods and you may then need to wait several or more days before the money hits your account. That is of course if the buyer does not raise an issue about the goods. Then you lose the goods and the money!

When I sold some roof bars recently the moment the Seller was committed the money appeared in my Ebay account. Then when he came to collect them there was either QR code and PN issued that I input that confirmed the sale was good. He then took the roof bars, and a few days later I decided to transfer the money from my Ebay account to my bank account. I've always found eBay to work well if you follow the procedures. My daughter and DIL use it extensively for selling stuff. In fact DIL when she moved home back in 2019 sold enough surplus stuff to fund a trip to Borneo.

Where I live cash on collection isn't really an option unless I'm lucky and someone local wants it. So cash is rather limiting for me.

I keep a bank account with virtually nothing in it just for cases like this.

We do the same for money to be paid into and then move the money to another account however it is eBay that keep your money for several days before releasing the funds to your bank account and there is nothing you can do about it. How many shops will let you take away goods and then wait several days for payment?

All of them that accept credit cards - there's a delay before the money is transferred and a percentage commission deducted from the amount the customer paid.

Giving free selling a slight delay on paying the seller isn’t unreasonable as eBay can use the funds on the markets. It’s the sellers choice whether to use eBay or not.

There is a huge difference between a debit or credit card transaction and an eBay transaction so not in even the same league.

Correct which is why sellers are abandoning eBay in droves as it has now become a game of chance. My feet did the walking and now using Marketplace which seems to be working well for us at present.

I believe that there are a lot more scammers on Marketplace than on eBay. That is according to the money programmes on TV.
I will always use cash.

Why do you say ebay is a game of chance. All that has changed is the fees aspect for private sellers.

I believe eBay introduced new rules last year which seem to hurt the private seller, in the name of buyer protection. This is copied from the Google overview, but I believe it is correct. I've only included the sections relevant to this post:

"As of October 1, 2024, UK-based private sellers on eBay no longer pay final value fees or regulatory operating fees, except for motors (cars, vehicles, and motorcycles). However, there are changes to free listing allowances and other fees, including a Buyer Protection fee for private sellers from February 4, 2025."

"Removing cash on pickup: As of October 1, 2024, the option for buyers to pay with cash for items will be removed, and all payments for local items will go through the site. "

"A Buyer Protection fee will be added to listings from UK-based private sellers, starting February 4, 2025. This fee will be included in the item price and paid for by the buyer. "

"From February 4, 2025, eBay will hold private seller funds for 14 days if the order is posted with an un-tracked delivery service."

That seems to align with Buckman’s position as he advertised his awning cash on collection, and if a Buyer Protection Fee is levied then ebay will have to have the sellers bank, or card, details in order to levy the fee. Life used to be simple with the local papers classifieds or Exchange and Mart. Such is progress.

The initial listing is free I have sold numerous items on FB also currently have my caravan on there.
You get up to 5 locations near you free of any charges, others from afar do look at the ads as well, the boost button gives you an even wider audience and the £2.00 gives you 3 days at a time, this is optional.
Also increments of £3.00, £4.00 & £5.00 gives you even more viewings.
Hi Kev have you had a lot of enquiries on your caravan i hope you get the asking price good luck.
