Last night my granddaughter announced that she wanted to do another trial dish for Christmas, but my daughter told her that she wasn’t going in to a supermarket today, and all local click and collect slots had been booked up. So at 1930 they sent an Uber order through for items from Sainsbury’s. It arrived by 2100, all complete and in date. Cost of order £34, delivery £1.70. How can this be?
 
Economy of scale in respect of the delivery cost. If there are 10 orders for delivery in a small area then thats £17. Same as a taxi, if the cost is £25 split 5 ways its only a fiver per head but for an individual its £25.

Pretty much the norm as people use them because being what they think is a bicycle they dont trouble themselves with such boring things as registration, insurance, a crash helmet or even a licence. The cost of which would eat (intentional pun) into their income.

What they fail to realise (or more likely simply choose to ignore) is that unless its a "Pedal assisted bicycle" which is one where you must actually pedal to get any motor assistance, they are, in law, a motorcycle, so are subject to the same legal requirements as a Honda Goldwing!

Many Police forces are finally waking up and taking action against these (sometimes very) high powered machines. But of course not being registered in any way, being capable of high speeds, and able to whizz down narrow alleys between anti-car bollards etc they can be very difficult to intercept and stop. Plus of course the riders have a hefty incentive to get away as they dont want their macines to be confiscated and crushed.
 
Anyone remember those bicycles that had a small two stroke engine mounted on the rear carrier. Otherwise a normal bicycle. Next step up was the Velosolex bike. LOL! 😂

My father had one, plus a later one called a Cycle Master with the engine in the rear wheel. He used to take me on days out from Leicester to the Peak District. There is currently one on EBay for £895.
 
With finding car parking these days my "go to" for local transport is a Honda Super Cub, so local deliveries by bikes, electric, motor etc is readily understandable or couriers would be spending more time waiting for parking slots than in transit.

Unfortunately, due to the physical bulk of stuff needed today it had to be the car, absolute nightmare parking, think the whole of Hampshire was hitting the stores today. So, I did not help either.
 
Brilliant idea for such a location as Milton Keynes, a clean sheet of paper city, conceived and developed with its lovely traffic free cycle/footway network.
Remember it as little more than a "T" junction with a cluster of homes around All St Church, cycling through to fish at friends place in Cosgrove. Was there a pub on the junction?
Pretty sure if still as back then, like here today it would be a total non starter.
