Engine Chipping

I've heard about "chipping" engines to give them more power, etc and it's something I would consider for my 2.4 Petrol Santa Fe. Anyone have experience of chipping petrol engines> I'm interested in cost, where to have it done, results? Would be fantastic if someone has done it to a 2.4 Santa Fe! Here's hoping.

Any help that anyone can give would be very much appreciated.

Hi Darin,

chipping a petrol engine with no turbo charger is pretty much a waste of money, an absolute maximum of 10% extra power may be gained but more likely 5%. A diesel or petrol engine with a turbo charger can benefit from up to 30% more torque and makes it much more worthwhile, my last car [Audi A4 2.5tdi Quattro 180bhp] was chipped to 210 bhp, did 40mpg solo and 27mpg towing a 1400 kg caravan and would pull in 6th gear at 60mph up any motorway hill, buying a twin axle and a dog gave me the need for a heavy estate type car and I bought an ML270cdi, this is chipped to 200bhp and pulls really well and probably produces enough carbon dioxide for me to get my moneys worth from the road tax. A petrol engine unless very big and thirsty will not give the torque of these fairly small diesels, if you are short of power a diesel may be a better option and they dont have to be slow and boring like some used to be.
