Thanks Andy for your response, dosn't quite effect me yet as l have not had it fitted as of yet, could you please send me by email details of the new window what l am supposed to look for to determin its the correct type. Dont want to trave an 85 mile rounf trip to find they have fitted the same one thats already in, at least if l can inspect it before it is fitted l can reject it there an then and save me the trouble of going through the problems Grandadbaza as had.

Andy,

Agree with Baza's comments re your responses. Thanks again.

What I cannot understand is that the window that is fitted to my van is clearly not strong enough but Polyplastics are trying to say that some of these windows have failed for some other reason. The window is clearly not thick enough!.

A realistic technical reason for failure of the modified

window is required before I will believe that the material is actually thick enough for the air pressure not to deform it and the problem to be solved.

I look forward to their response.

I have been following this with interest as we also have the problem.

Our Sterling Searcher (March 2008) developed the problem within a couple of months. A new window was fitted at our first service in February 2009, once the problem was supposed to have been fixed. Within 150 miles of towing the problem had recurred.

Looking at the new window today, I can see that it is dated October 2008, so 1 month before the modified windows were made.

When were the dates of the faulty windows known? If they were known when ours was fitted, why did nobody check the date on the replacement window?

There is now a second replacement waiting at our dealers for fitting soon, this involves a 60 mile round trip and will take up pretty much a whole day. I will be asking them to check the date on the window before we book the van in!

Yes, I had been considering that too, but at least with a window that is SUPPOSED to be better we may have a fighting chance of a good outcome!

It really seems daft that duff windows were still being replaced with duff windows if these dates were known.

All windows from Nov 2008 are supposed to be the new design !

Hi fellow window watchers , just done next leg of my hols, done 160 miles today at no more than 55 ,left very eary and purposely took it steady to see if it was speed related, arrived at Tewksbury CC site ,sat having welcome drink looking out of window that has got worse, this window has not just got the gullwing to the centre ,like the others but it has also got marks away from the centre,

So Jennifer I dont think it matters which window you get at the moment they all appear to be very suspect

Hooray.......at last.........this is the nearest to the truth we are likely to get!

Firstly a pat on the back for the Forum as I believe we would not have received this response from Polyplastics if it were not for the comments made from the contributors on this subject through this forum.

Some observation :

1). "at no stage has the material ever been down graded or made

thinner to save cost" In which case why does it appear so flimsy and as Grandadbaza put it "clingfilm"

Oops pressed the wrong button, I will continue.

2). So we are now all going to be supplied with a replacement

window that is still not fit for purpose and have to wait

until the Mk3 (from what I gleaned from Swift) version is

produced from new tooling after the Summer break. This will

then entail yet another trip to the dealer for another

replacement which only time will tell if is is suitable for

purpose. The word "Compensation" comes to mind.

Well I am pleased in some respects that having spent a large proportion of my working life in the engineering industry I have come to the conclusion that I know when I am being fed b***

s**** and Polyplastics latest post has endorsed my thoughts that the current window is not strong enough.

I believe that Swift Group must have had an input into Polyplastics latest statement and that they are in no way responsible for the problems we are suffering .

Having vented my frustration on this topic I feel much better now!!

Watch this space as I believe I have found the answer to why so many people are moaning about poor heating on electric in their vans.

To be continued.......

It appears to me reading between the lines that Polyplastic are implying that some of us are doing something wrong with our front windows that others are not doing, as they say that some are not failing, are they suggesting that I am doing something to cause the fault myself ,or some sort of boy racer that tows at excessive speeds, and has general disregard for my possessions ,as my name implys I am "GRANDADBAZA" a pensioner with 15 grandchildren that has been caravaning for 30 odd years ,including when I was younger and more impetious, (and may have exceeded the speed limit and have had less regard for possessions than an old guy like me has now )I have never had the problem with front windows like I have had in the last 18 months , I can only accept Polyplastics latest cover up as an

insult to my intelligence ,

As James says where would we be with out the forum .

Come on Polyplastic come clean and admit a C..K up and appologise to all of us that have paid good money for a cr.p product. The new window they have developed since Nov 2008 either works or does not , if there is some special way it should be treated to stop the Gull Wing affect occuring ,(like leaving van in drive ) then Polyplastic should tell us. getting a bit fed up with lame excuses

My other half as just read my last post and said why have I not mentioned that most reputable companies would offer some form of compensation for all the trouble we have had to endure ,Well I am not after compensation wether we deserve it or not what I would like is to have the enjoyment of a caravan that I consider in all other respects apart from the Polyplastic input a great product ,just sort the problem now and stop passing the buck!!!

I have a question for Richard.......

Richard, we have friends with a Coachman Amara delivered late April 2008. Lsst month they noticed that their centre front window had developed the mark (I have seen it, it is exactly as ours started out). They have reported it to their dealer and are awaiting a response.

I am aware of one other failure on a Coachman, and this owner originally was refused a new window by Myriad (according to his dealer) as the window was only guaranteed for one year.

As his failed after 13 months Coachman did agree to a replacement free of charge, as a goodwill gesture presumably.

These are the facts as we have been told them on another forum, but naturally our friends are very worried as to whether their window will be replaced at no cost to them.

Can you offer them any assurance on this?

Hi everyone,

just to report the failure of the new replacement window on our trip down to Cornwall. We checked it on the first stop at the motorway services and lo and behold ... the familiar marks were back! The date stamp on the window is 0905 which is the new improved design too.

Like Baza said we're not speed freaks either, so hopefully the MK3 version will be up to the job it was intended to do. We can then look forward to an unblemished view of the scenery when we are away in our pride and joy!

Sorry to hear about your windows.

l have had confirmation my window has arrived at last at Discover Leisure Chorley which now will be fitted on the 27th of August, l am bit concerned that this will be a futile operation after hearing about your new windows.

If mine fails at the next outing which will be September after its service and the warranty work outstanding, would be at considerable expense to me has l will have a 80mile round trip again.

My feeling is that it will fail unless polyplastics had sorted the problem before my window had been dispatched, hears hoping.

Have had my 02/09 window replaced today with a 06/09 window.

This obviously is not the Mk3 version but does appear to be a lot stronger than the previous one although it looks as if the profile has been altered to stiffen it up. The only problem is that the inside is no longer flat and the bottom edge protrudes by 8mm infront of the adjacent windows. Have emailed pictures to Swift and will await a reply.

Also been told by my dealer that the bulge that appears in the side of the van in hot weather is delaminations.!

Really not a Happy Bunny !!!!!!!!

Hi, everyone , sorry to here of your latest failure John&Wendy, perhaps you also would like to have a more difineative answer to when the problem will be sorted out, the following paragraph copied from Richard of Polyplastics post does not put an exact date on things ::: We are aware of a few isolated failures of this modified window on certain Swift vehicles. To dispel any doubts whatsoever we have committed to produce tooling for a re-engineered front centre window that will be available for replacement issues after the Summer shutdown period. Priority for this part will naturally be given to those few customers who have had failures of the originally modified windows (ie. Those dated after 0811).; does Richard or anyone know when and how long the summer shutdown is, as my view from my front window gets worse with every journey, I have been having to wait and put up with this problem for well over a year now ,to some that may not seem a lot but I take my van out every other weekend and apart from that I have spent 6 full weeks in it ,Something need sorting , I have no axe to grind with Swift, Andy and co , are the most helpful customer service dept I have come across ,Swift have been sold a duff product and are doing there best to sort it ,Polyplastic need to get there act together and start making promises they can keep, they are supposed to be the experts ??

Hi Baza,

sorry we have problems with the signal on our laptop at the moment so it's difficult to keep up with what's going on and posting. Thanks for the update and we will catch up once we get home!

The first batch of re-engineered front centre windows will be sent out from Polyplastic into us at Miriad during the last week of August. (Poly have a 3 week shutdown commencing today!).

As stated previously, the VAST majority of issues have been resolved by the deeper cavity windows (the Mk II, if you will) but there are incidences (including your own) whereby this has not succeeded...hence this completely re-engineered window.

Until this new window is available we are scontinuing with the supply of the 'Mk II' as stated.

I hope this info helps!

Richard
