I only found out by accident that there was a problem with these windows when returning from holiday in April I contacted my caravan supplier Highbridge Caravans regarding an insurance quote for a repair to a worktop damaged during the holiday. On enquiring if there was any way to get rid of these apparent "stains" in the window I was told of the "scuffing" problem. A new window was ordered by them under warranty and it is due to be fitted later this month when the insurance repair is carried out. I am not optimistic that this will resolve the problem due to the number of second failures that there appear to have been reported. But I must say Highbridge's help has been excellent.

Hi Richard,

we are in the same position as Grandadbaza... new MK2 window fitted at home by miriad fitter, which failed first trip out recently (this is our third or fourth window now)!

I hope it will be replaced at home as our first service will be next week before the MK3 is available. Our dealer hadn't even heard about the MK3 coming out, so were very interested in what had been said on the forum.

Hi Wendy,

Can you advise when your window was fitted by our Engineer........and your surname would also help me grab the original paperwork??

I will then contact you directly to arrange.

Many thanks,

Richard

it's good to see you taking the time to reply on here too. I hope (for your sake as well as ours) that the MK3 will be successful!

This is not the first problem with Polyplastic..........all motorhomes and caravans produced between 1998 and 2005 with polyplastic windows have possibly serious faults....... Polyplastic and Burstner put out a window recall earlier this year.

The proposed repair unfortunately does not work as the mechanical seal which the double glazing is reliant on is compromised.

In addition the screen print which is the cause of the fault is breaking up and leaving deposits in the double glazing void.

Worst case scenario will be eventual water building up in the cavity.

This will make any resale impossible.

I have requested that Burstner replace windows free of charge and will pursue a legal case if they fail to replace.

We have an 8 week old 2009 Elddis Superstorm with marks on the front centre window.

Having read this very long thread it is reassuring to read the manufacturers statement and the fact they have publicly accepted and acknowledged the problem.

PROBLEMS HAPPEN !!

ITS HOW YOU PUT THEM RIGHT THATS COUNTS

I to have just purchased in 09 Compass Rallye and after two trips to the Lakes the dreaded marks have appeared.

With the sun shining on the front window and travelling at 60mph across to the lakes you could actual see the window deflecting, it was also very windy which no doubt increased the pressure.

I am awaiting a new window to be delivered to my dealer but how do you tell what version/mk it it is??

Regards, John

John,

reading the posts I gather 0709 to 0811 are MK1, 0811 through to 0908 will be the MK2 and the new MK3 will end up being 0908 onward.

Obviously you will not know if 0811 is a MK1 or MK2, and subsequently whether a 0908 is MK2 or MK3.

I expect mine will be 8901 so a MK minus 20 LOL

John Mark of Myriad has just left me without fitting the window has they sent the wrong one to big for my Van, it was the mark3 but someone c--k-d up with the size how l don't know has they had my vin number what swift van l had, any way it will be sorted this Friday hopefully if they have my size in stock.

Before Mark left he checked the window l had fitted the other week by Discover, it was produced in 06/09 which he confirmed was a mark2 window, top left corner of the window tells you what month and year it was produced.

I am sat waiting with my fingers crossed for a phone call to say he has one in stock so he can fit it this Friday morning, here's hoping otherwise how long l will have to wait for one to be produced is anyone's guess, l suggest you ask your dealer to confirm the size's before Myriad or Swift dispatch it and of course it is a mark3 window.

I also agree with you, when we were travelling back down the M1 to the M62 l also could see the window flexing in the sunlight so much so l couldn't bear to look through the rear view mirror.

Miriad came yesterday and fitted the new window the fitter Mark told me that this window the Mkll has had the depth increased by 6mm, l was under the understanding l would be getting the Mklll, he explained that the Mklll widow was for the swift vans with the bigger centre window.

l will not know until next year when we use the motorway for our main holidays if the problem has been resolved.

He told me that their had been no complaints about this widow which was produced in 08/09 any before this date were the windows that failed.

My question is anyone out there had the Mkll window fitted after August this year and has the modification worked.

l presume they are still under warranty so l am not that worried, Andy is this the case.

Joanne the problem has been on windows produced by Polyplastics, mine was a AceFirestar 08 model, after towing more than 100 miles on Motorways the centre window flexed to much causing the two panes to touch resulting in marks on the inside.

Polyplastics first of all changed the acrylics but that failed then they increased the depth of the window in my case by 6mm, on larger front windows the increase was more.

Miriad are the suppliers of these windows not the manufacturer.

Up to now the Mk11 the smaller centre window Mk111 being the larger one have so far it looks like the problem is solved t.

Not all caravan manufacturers use the Polyplastic windows, from what l was told by the Miriad fitter only Polyplastic have had this problem.

Hope this makes sense.

Well the Mk3 window fitted to our caravan had it's first trip on the motorway...all looks good :)

We almost held our breath before inspecting it on arrival at the campsite as the marks have appeared so many times before, but this time the window was clear (give or take a bug or two)!

There haven't been many other updates so hopefully that means good news too?

Hi Wendy and all "window people" have been holding my breath since window was fitted been on a few trips ,this weekend we did a round trip of 240 motorway miles ( purposely keeping the speed up to the legal max as much as I could to give the window a proper test) ,all seems well , dare I suggest that they have solved it, I really hope so!!!,I have done more miles with this new window( number 4) without adverse effect, than any of the others.

Well I am pleased that you all seem to be getting things sorted.

I am afraid I am still waiting for a replacement for the replacement that was fitted on the 22nd July that although has not deformed, sadly protrudes beyond the windows either side.

It appears that unless I continually chase then nothing happens.

To make matters worse I am expected to take the van back to the dealers again when others have replacements fitted at home by Myriad. When this will be ........who knows!

Grandadbazza /John/Wendy

Which vans do you have made by Swift, l ask this question as l have the AceFirestar which they tell me needs the Mkll window has it is smaller than the Swifts, only needs an increase of 6mm against 20mm for the Swift challengers or other models.

Glad to here yours are o/k, can't say the same for mine has we cannot try it until next year due to some problems at home.

Talking to the Miriad engineer he says that no faults have occurred with either the Mkll or the Mklll, all these windows were produced from August 09 anything produced before this date became faulty.

James l can't understand your predicament, my second window fault was reported to Andy on this forum around the middle of September within a week it was replaced with the modified one, in fact Miriad supplied the wrong type (Mklll) on the Tuesday but came back with the correct one (Mkll) on the Friday of the same week

All this was co-ordinated by Andy of Swift who's support has been faultless on all the issue's l have had with my van, which to be truthful has only been a few, the window being the main problem.

James l to used my dealer for the first replacement window but the last was done through Andy and Miriad
