Finally bought a van

Club sites are too expensive IMO, and fine if you want to stay on a featureless gravel car park.
We much prefer CL's but we have no requirement for shower blocks or fully serviced pitches
We only use CLs in England & Wales - we notice that an increasing number have toilets/showers and/or fully serviced pitches but neither are "must-haves" for us - pitch size and location are the most important things for us. In Scotland, the scarcity of CLs means that we include commercials in our options, many in cracking locations.

We've done 102 nights away this year, at an average cost just under £20 per night - slightly skewed by an extra night en-route at a £35 commercial due to technical issues - so would have been just over £19/night otherwise.

I was looking last night & average around me is bout £35-£40, saw a camc site very close to my house, £27.50 per night until I added the wife & then it jumped to £35:50. Might have to take van out & leave the wife at home to watch the cats lol.

A lot of sites near us are doing that, quote for a unit, ie Car and van, then when you go to pay, and a 2nd person id added.

Not sure if it is just me, but have noticed more and more sites are adding all sorts of extras i.e. awning, dogs, extra adult etc. We do not mind paying a bit extra for the dogs, but when there are no facilities for the dogs i.e. dog walk or even dog bins it is a bit annoying.

If you come across sites where all these features are extra and you feel its no longer value for money, then may as well as not using them, I suggest you write to the site and tell them how dissatisfied you are with their tariffs. If they don't know why customers are unhappy how can they do anything about it.

Maybe If they get enough responses, they may reconsider their tariffs.

We don't bother with booking on those sites that charge for every conceivable extra. Saves us a hassle.
