We have recently purchased a Nissan Almera Tino 2dCi 136bhp and intend to use it with a caravan. We know very little about appropriate size and weight for this vehicle and would be grateful for advice/suggestions as to make, model and size of van. At the same time I would also be grateful for some advice as to the information we should be looking at.

First time buyer - Secondhand caravan

According to my data, its kerbweight is around 1509kg and the maximum permissible towload 1250kg. Going by the 85% recommendation, the maximum weight of the caravan should ideally be no more than 1283kg which ties up with the max towload spec. You don't say how many berths you will need in the caravan but these figures would allow many 2 berths and some of the lighter 4 berth models. Perhaps someone else can make a good recommendation.
