Flu

Hi, hadn’t been up caravan for few months so decided to cover with flu with bag and elastic band as lots of insects around and didn’t want it getting blocked which happens often.

Forgot all about it and turned heating on, and heard a little band.

pressure blew the bag off and a little smell from the boiler, but seems to be OK and running hot water heating etc.

Just wondering if any possible lasting damage…

Hence to say, I’ll not be covering it again😁

I reckon it should be ok - a plastic bag won't have put up much resistance.

What make and model of heater was involved?

On the basis that I suspect you have Truma/Carver convector heater, It is essential to have the heater checked professionally after any such event to see if it has suffered any splitting of the heat exchanger or flue pip, as any such damage would be a series hazard to any user of the appliance or the caravan.

However similar "rapid combustion" events are far unknown and in most cases (but not all) the heat exchanger and flue pipe are undamaged as they were designed with this type of event in mind.

There are several scenarios where this type of event can arise, and basically its a build up of unburnt gas and air inside the heat exchanger which is ignited, and produces a noisey rapid combustion event. In some cases the screw-in top of the roof mounted flue pipe has been blown off.

I still remember the best way to differentiate between a cold and the flu. Terry Wogan related it on his radio breakfast show. “When you’re lying in bed and see £10 notes floating past the window, you have a cold if you get up to grab some.

If you stay lying there and let them float past, you have the flu.”

That is not a traditional model for a touring caravan, so Ignore my description in my previous answer. It seems you probably have static caravan, and that is an entirely different prospect. By law you must use a qualified and accredited fitter to check out the heater and to make any repairs if necessary. (the law is different between touring caravans and static caravans)
