Been using the above car to pull a bailey gt 60 540/6 with no problems at all, even use 6th gear-just wondered anybody else use this car as cant fault it!
I have had my 2.0 TDCI now for nearly 2 years and absolutely superb car both solo and towing .We tow a 2000 Sterling Eccles Coral 5 berth with ours with no problems . 50mpg solo and 33mpg ish towing .The 1 major weak point seems to be the alternator which will need replacing after 3 to 4 years .
Also mine is a Ghia and i really don,t like the electric handbrake but that,s just a personal thing
I have been towing a bailey champagne 04 for a couple of years now, the only problems I have ever had were when reversing up hill, very smelly clutch was the result so I have put on a motor mover and that has solved the problem. I had two mondaeo's before that and am just as pleased with the c max. I have also fitted rear spring rubbers just to give it a bit more firmness on the rear end. I agree with the others that I dont use 6th gear and still get 31mpg when towing and up to 56 on long journeys with avareage 44 when running back and forth to work. The cmax owners club has some usefull info on them as they can be a bit problematic.
While it may be a stable tow, be aware that the car has a max tow weight of 1500kg.
If you have the caravan almost empty, you should still be legal, however if you are anywhere near the MTPLM (laden weight) then you will be exceeding the car's legal tow limit.
