ford explorer 4.0 v6

I have found different max. towload figures for the 4.0 Explorer from various sources but none was less than 2500kg.

my dads got an explore and he cant fault its towing ability has alot of power and control but does tend to pull better with more weight in the van hes got an abby safari but when he towed our old compass only 850 weight it didnt pull very well.

if your going to get one it seems to enjoy a challenge

Hello jo-anne

I have a Ford Explorer, mine is an import via Australia. 4.0 litre, OHV, manual. I get up to 20 mpg towing at 56 mph and up to 30 mpg at the same speed solo.

It tows a 1300 plus kg van with absolute stability and as much power as you need, nose weight 150 kg, any van you can think of, it will cope.

If you can get one like mine, jump at it, otherwise the one sold by Ford in this country is still ok but is only available as automatic and is more powerfull and more thirsty.

3000 pounds will buy you a superb towcar, you can buy a lot of petrol with the cash you save on a more expensive motor.

Hope this helps.

Alan
