Ford Mondeo 52(03) problem

Well after a nice weekend in the caravan at a certified site in Leek I began to tow the car back when I came up to a roundabout I put the car in first gear ready to move and the rev counter shot up to 3000 revs but there was very little movement from the car. I tried a couple of times again by putting the car into neutral and back into first until it finally moved away easily. Anyone know what the problem might be? This happened again at various other points on the journey and not just in 1st gear.

Hi Keith,

It sounds to me from what you describe that the clutch may be slipping. A way to test this is to get to about 25MPH and then shift to 5th gear and floor it. The car should labour, if it starts to rev without moving then its definately the clutch. Another common sign the clutch is on its way out is if there is juddering in high gears when accelerating. Whats the mileage on the car? It could however be something as minor as the brake fluid being old and over heating, which also drives the hydraulic clutch.

Regards,

Shaun.
