Ford S Max

Thinking of getting a new Ford S Max auto to tow my Bailey Pageant series 5. Is it a good towing vehicle? Look forward to your comments

Yes - we've got a 2.0TDCi, had it since last June and have towed about 1000miles some with our S6 Provence (1420kg) and 200 or so with our new S7 Champagne (1410kg). Getting about 33mpg towing and 45 solo (we live in the country). The S-max since Feb 2008 has a nose weight of 90kg but 80kg for previous builds (can't see any difference myself - it's the same towbar)Max tow weight is 1750kg which is plenty. Practical caravan magazine have been using a 2.2TDCi and have had nothing but praise for it. My brother has been heaving an S6 Monarch around with his 2.0TDCi for the last three years and easily gets over 35mpg towing and 50 solo. I'm exepecting my mpg to improve a bit when I've got a few more miles on the clock (it's only done 5k so far)

Really stable tow, plenty of power and stacks of room inside. We used a C-Max previously which has the same engine but the car is a bit lighter. Still an excellent towcar, pulled the Provence all over Scotland last year and UK the year before.
