Hi Peter,

Fridge?

If the fridge works on gas, then there are no issues with the internal workings of the fridge - which is good news.

But it doesn't work on 240V, this means that you either have a loose connection or the heater element has failed (most likely).

Replacing the heater element (cartridge) is an easy DIY job, especially if you can reach everything through the exterior vents and don't need to remove the fridge from the housing.

Peter,

If the panel is actually split, then you need to repair from both sides: From the rear, one or two layers of glass mat stippled on with GRP resin; and from the front grind out the slit into a V shaped groove and fill with self coloured GRP.

If the panel just has a hairline (surface crack) then grind out the crack into a V shaped groove and fill with resin.

It's not a difficult job, just follow the instructions on the resin pack. And regard everything you use to mix, stipple (paint), or spread the resin as disposable.

And if you do open up the inside, check for wet-rot in any surrounding woodwork.

Hello Peter

An addendum to Rob-Jax's pretty full answer regarding the gas system. To comply with the gas regulations you must be competent in the eyes of the law to install, service, repair or remove all gas appliances so that includes BRAKING and MAKING gas joints.
