Over the years I have used the old safety razor, then the Gillette razors with 2 blades, then 3, then 4, but the Gillette blades starting to get quite expensive. Looking around found a new boy on the block and decided to try their blades. Might as well have gone back to the old safety razor as kept on nicking myself. After some persuasion from OH I decided to try one of the latest Braun electric razors.

To say I am impressed is an under statement! This new electric shaver is as good if not better than using a cut throat razor for a really close shave. Seriously impressed and now wonder why I never tried an electric razor previously! Very happy chappy!

I have one of the hand-held electric shavers for my head (the ones that sit in the palm of your hand and have 8 or 9 rotating cutting heads) but always wet shaved my face. I started using the Aldi multi-blade razors a few years back and they're very good and a lot cheaper than some of the better-known brands.

Just me I am sure. But I have tried electric razors and the vibrations make my skin feel awful, and it doesn’t settle for a long time.

Mind you, my beard is like wire, while my head hair is extremely thin, (in fact mostly disappeared).

This is something I've been thinking about for a while now. Initiated by 'shrink flation' when I noticed the price of Gillette blades and the claim the pack would last me 3 months. *But only if I shaved three times a week.

Also they don't last as long as they used to.

So I've looked at electric razors and appreciate the plug for Braun. Mind you some of them are ridiculously priced.

What model did you get?

Just because I can, Amazon offered me a small battery powered electric razor that's for travel really as it's small and fits into the palm of your hand with room to spare. Couldn't tell the before and after difference. That'll go to a charity at some time.

Taking into consideration the price, I read numerous reviews and also checked on the Which review comparison site. eventually decided to go for the Braun Pro+ 76 series. The shaver includes a trimming tool for sideburns.

I chose the basic pack which excludes the charger to plug it into as one can plug the cable directly into the shaver. Not cheap but taking into consideration the cost of replacement blades after 3 years it has probably paid for itself. Comes with a cleaning station that you would use probably once a month. I simply removed the head and rinsed it under a tap. Works just as well.

Could you check that model please as I can't find it anywhere. A search keeps coming up with a series 9 model with a 9476cc engine 🙄

I bought my father an expensive Braun battery -+ corded foil model as the staff in the care home kept nicking his face with wet bladed razors. However they couldn’t get on with the Braun so they reverted to wet shaved again. I retrieved it and still occasionally use it. When he left us I retrieved his very expensive hearing aids and had them reprogrammed for my hearing spectrum. But I drew the line at his teeth !

Did you mean "hearing aids" and not heating aids?

Gillette five blade fusion served me well until recent years. A local friend developed skin melanoma and had a life changing experience.
His oncologist said every time he shaved he was removing a layer of his facial skin which eventually contributed to the cancer.

Draw your own conclusions and seek your own medical advice.

Since then a lot of us have ceased shaving and grown beards.
Not like Father Christmas but using a Braun rechargeable beard trimmer we look like anything from a number 10 to a number 1. No 1 is say three days average growth.
The point is we are no longer scraping our skin off as we have done for over 50 years.

I grew a beard some 43 years ago, and still have it. I happily admit to simply being too bone idle to shave every day!
I do however have a mains hair Clipper similar to the ones that barbers use, it has different length guards and I use that about once a week to keep my beard neatly trimmed.

There is an advert on the box, cannot remember what for. It tells women that every time they use a razor they remove one third of their skin, (yes one third). My maths says that on day 4 they will be shaving flesh.

Your oncologist is probably correct. I guess the avert might be exaggerating a tad.

I use a Wahl professional kit. The dog has no objection to me using her groomer.

I stopped shaving at 18 years old, 55 years ago.
Hair and beard trim every so often that's it.
Since 2020 it's been a DIY jobbie.

£250, or there abouts for an electric razor would, keep me in blades for about 4 years.
Maybe I should just drive with my head out the car window.

However an electric razor will last a lot longer than 4 years. In the winter months I normally grow a beard which keeps my face "warm" and saves money for Christmas. LOL! :D
