Go into the Old Anchor as they serve an excellent meal there at a reasonable price. Avoid Star as toilets upstairs and also Kings Arms which has now lost all its charcter.
We like Upton upon Severn saw the marina wow some big boats in there and even went pass the Olde Anchor Inn and thanks for the information next time we will go in.

Glad your holiday went well. Was the Robin Hood Inn okay for you?

When our kids were very young we took them, our Lurcher/Lab cross and Red Setter on a narrow boat holiday. We picked our holiday boat up in Upton on Severn and proceeded north. We came into Digilis locks a mite too fast and created mayhem. Good job the grp boats went into the lock after the steel boats. The river was running quite fast and to make reasonable progress required full throttle. That opened a cupboard and all the crockery fell out and smashed. Very glad to turn right off if the Severn and into the canal system. Where a first stop was in a basin then head off into town crockery shopping.
One other thing sticks in my mind is that in Upton there was a company operating all electric narrow boats which had pre agreed charging points along the likely holiday routes.

Interesting as we have wanted to hire a canal boat for a holiday for awhile, but it meant travelling further afield.

The Severn wasn’t good with young kids as it can have quite a strong current and narrow boats have low power and poor manoeuvrability so turning around to reach a child or dog wasn’t easy or quick. So the kids and us had life jackets and they were on restraints too. The dogs lived below. Also most of the land either side is private and has quite high and sometimes overgrown banks. Howeverv when we reached Stourport and left the Severn life got immeasurably better. Easy moorings on the towpaths and lots of nice pubs.

So if you are tempted stick to the canals, although the Avon is okay.

We lived in Stourport for a couple of years where we got our estate training. LOL!

Stourport was the destination of choice for the annual Sunday school trips from here in the Black Country.
We used to play games on the greens by the river Severn, there was the obligatory boat trip on the Severn steamer, the more adventurous among us would hire one of the small motor boats ("Come in number 9 - your time's up), the funfair and a stop at a public house on the way home for us kids to spend the last of our pocket money on Vimto and crisps, while our Sunday school teachers enjoyed a well earned drink after looking after us little horrors all day.
Happy times 😊
