Our thin one is breathable and we've used it on grass with no problem. But the point of my question was about getting a new one.Most sites nowadays will only allow breathable groundsheets,so the thin one would not be allowed,only useable on gravel hardstandings.
I have the same, you can put down as many as you need, or just a few around the doorway.We use these type of tiles.

Yep did the same when they first came out. Now they are used in the garage and the shed.
