Haynes Manual for Freelander 2003 / Changing brake pads

We are looking to change the Front break pads on our Freelander 2003 Serengeti TD4, REG. in 07/2003 1951CC, BMW engine, please can you tell us if they have brought the Haynes manual out yet for this model?

My husband is willing to change the break pads, put is wondering is there a certain way of bleeding the brakes, because when we had a Renault Espace you had to bleed certain wheels first.

The Haynes site lists a manual which covers models only up to 2002/52 reg.

Without a manual I would not try this job. Some models have quirks connected with ABS or pad wear sensors, but conversely some can be very straightforward. Safety is so important that it's not worth taking a risk if you are not 100% certain that you can do the job properly. You don't have to use a main dealer ... you could use a small local garage. Most tyre dealers also do brakes, and for about an hour's labour I would get someone else to do it.

Incidentally, pad replacement does not usually require brake bleeding - the calipers are just unbolted and held out of the way, with all brake pipes/hoses remaining connected.

Hi Mike

Thanks for feed back, my error in saying bleeding brakes my husband changed the master cylinder and also a wheel or brake cylinder, this is what required bleeding of the breaks.

We picked up the manual this afternoon which covers series 2 freelanders.

Many thanks for the concern in the safety concern, but my husband is a qualified engineer by trade and has worked on our break systems for 30 years, so I have every confidence in him.

He also saves us pounds in garage bills.

Allyson, I'm not familiar with Freelander brakes, but, as far as i know, it should not be neccesary to bleed the brakes after a pad change. I stand to be corrected, but if hubby is not happy doing the job, should he be attempting it? Sorry if that sounds patronising, but brakes are a bit important, aren't they. Pehaps CliveV can assist?
