Why do new caravans still come with the old type coaxial analogue type sockets? HDMI has been around for years and a lot of modern TVs no longer have a coaxial socket.

Not quite sure why you would want HDMI in the caravan. As you quite rightly say, they are for unit to unit connections, so the caravan really doesnt need it.

Many people seem to have satellite TV in the caravans these days, but again manufacturers only have a single input for a satellite dish.

Surely though, even with Sat, its going to be a co-axial cable to the box. Box to TV only would be HDMI.

We are in real danger these days of over complicating things, if people start to want twin and quadruple LNBs, the caravans interior is going to start to look like the control room at Jodrell Bank. Personally, I hate trailing cables, the less I have the better.

I had never considered this one before but I suspect the co axial is cheaper. On the same point all TV booster systems I have come across use co axial. On that basis I suppose if you are buying a TV for the caravan make sure it has that connection.

Wouldn’t a sat input into the interior of the caravan be a sat screw connection not coaxial?

The audio connections are phono plugs which have red, white or yellow "inserts" not coax... On my brand new Avtex, the coax aerial connection is a coax socket (not plug) on the LH side at the top of the connections...

The cabling is high quality Co-axial using F type connectors which are screw in. I use a twin LNB which requires two connections from dish to sat box. Again F types are used but with twin co-ax cable and two entry points into the caravan. You can use the original style push fit but the connection may come loose. Hence F types.

not quite sure what you would need HDMI sockets for in a caravan, HDMI merely connect one device to another (tv smart box to TV, DVD player to TV, Games consol to TV etc etc) I have games consols and a HD reciever into one of my TV's but the HDMI cables I use are neatly tucked behind the TV's, No need to plug them into a wall mounted socket.
And as for watching regular TV every TV i know of has a Co-axial socket, Don't dismiss the power of the good old fashioned TV aerial, we get about 140-odd channels through ours including lots of HD channels, Freeview through a co-ax cable is all digital thesedays,

It's ok for me , I fall asleep a lot, Never seen a TV without a co ax connector, but need a new TV for the van next week after my pension gets paid, I require one with a DVD player, the last one, (10 year old) was a Tecknika one, great. Any better recomendations. About 21 inch no bigger.

My Avtex, built in DVD, and records to a memory stick is now 12 years old and going strong. Pricey, but built to last.

Hutch, we changed our Tv couple of years back went for the Tecknika and duly returned it, the sound was awful,
Perhaps they have cut corners in more recent years as you were obviously happy with the 10 year old one.
We currently have the Bush Smart Combi DVD 24 inch from Argos - click link

But then why do you want a TV if you always fall asleep

Well known effect that sound from flat panel TV is bad, because there isn't space for a decent speaker. We got a good deal on an Avtex with their own sound bar at Birmingham which gives excellent sound and has a bracket that bolts the two together.

What we do at home is we have an old Bose Soundlink connected via a 3.5mm jack to jack lead to the TV, and that's on a Samsung 40"

Hutch, I have a Finlux 21", other than sound quality I cannot fault it, a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack lead to the on-board radio makes it a very acceptable setup.

I understand that the Finlux, Cello, Feguson and Bush alternatives are the same TV, so worth shopping around.

Of course there are the usual offers from Lidl and Aldi (Braun brand) from time to time.

If you are a regular user of EHU and you don't mind a slightly larger TV then I think this is worth a look, 5 year guarantee:

A nice feature is the built in Wi-Fi.
