Help = Found window delamination whilst on holiday in France

Hi

We're on holiday in Benodet, Brittany and I've just noticed that our front nearside window has delaminated along its bottom edge. The c'van is a 2006 Bailey Senator Arizone I've done some research via Google and it looks as though a new window will be required, although some folk have attempted repairs with specialist adhesives. All the posts on caravan forums seem to be at least a couple of years old. I note too that in the past the manufacturers' have given discount on replacement windows as it is a known problem.

However in the short term I am wondering if the caravan is towable as we are due to leave here on Friday 24/08 to drive 70 miles to Roscoff and then on Monday 27/08 a 300 mile drive home from Plymouthto St Helens, Merseyside. The English leg will be mainly motorway driving c50mph. I could tape up the window edge with duct tape as tI have read the outer layer could become detached.

I do have Red Pennant insurance and so they would probably send out a new window but if a replacement is necessary I would prefer to try and source aecond hand one from a breakers.

All comments both on the long term solution (repair/replacement) and short term (drive home) are very welcome.

If it is only along the bottom i would open window and put some duct tape along folding it up so that it is stuck to inner and outer of window. When window is shut this will then stop any air pressure getting between the two when towing and opening it up further.

I agree with birdman.......you can't beat a bit of Duct tape for a temporary caravan repair!
Sort it out permanently when you get home.

I think I will be using the duct tape temporary solution. Anymore thoughts anyone. I think my wifi payment expires about 13.OO French time (12 noon UK) so I won't be picking up any forum posts after that time. SO anymore good ideas please post SOON!!!

I used this company for a repair to my Pageant front window which had completely delaminated http://eeco-ltd.co.uk/
much cheaper than a new window .
if you want to try a repair yourself be aware that tthe above company will not attempt a repair on a "contaminated "window
personaly for £90 I went for the proffesional option

BUT this is available on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Caravan-Campervan-Window-Repair-Sealant-Completely-Translucent-from-Germany-/261079047193?pt=UK_Campervan_Caravan_Accessories&hash=item3cc9861c19
PS do not remove the top metal hanging rail from the window as you will never get it on again

Hi, I repaired a delaminated window a couple of years ago on our swift conqueror- and its been fine ever since. I used DOW CORNING marine silicone-it has good temp. flexibility. I simply removed window , put a small bead around and clamped it up with some small crocodile clips, Once set, simply remove any excess with a sharp knife. From the sound of yours, you could probably do it in-situ. Remember, just a 2-3mm bead as when the two faces ate put back together, its surprising how it spreads. I posted the repair on here when I did it. hth,stuart1
