Help Needed Kia Sorento for Towing

I have just bought an Elddis Super Cyclone MTMLP 1900kgs. I want to buy a Kia Sorento 2.5 diesel. Anyone had any experience with this car towing a caravan of this weight?

I have a Kia Sorento Titan auto,it is a first class tow car and should cope with your van easily I find it comfrortable and the cruise is great on the motorway.I think you would be happy with the performance of the vehicle if your budget can stretch to the face lift model with the extra bhp thats the one id go for. Good Luck

Haev a look at "uksorento.com".

We've had our 05 Sorie from new and she tows our Wyoming, nearly 1700kgs with ease. She's heavy mind you but you'll appreciate the weight, no bow waves to talk about. The Sorie in my view wil be a good match for your Elddis.

The pre face lift had a Sachs self levelling suspension worked by the shock absorbers. The facelift has the uprated engine but no self levelling suspension.

I agree with Gilbert go for the newest model you can and try and get the XS or above, they use a different 4x4 system which I think is far superior to the XE.

Grandad,

I've got a 55 (05) plate XS manual & it tows my van (Bailey Indiana 1500kg)as if it wasn't there!

As mine is a manual it has the lower towing capacity....only 2.8 tonnes! (2800kg) & with a kerb weight of 2148kg you'd be fine towing your new van with it.

Auto's have a higher towing capacity of 3 tonnes (3000kg) with a simular kerbside weight.

Pre facelift models (2006) have an anuall car tax of

THe difference in the 4wd system mentioned by dustydog is that the XS and high spec models has torque on demand which lets you drive around in 2wd rear and if the system senses slippage then the car goes into 4wd without any intervention from you. The Sorento also has a low ratio box which gives only 4wd.

Its a fine towcar and one witha good reliabilty record. The Spring 2009 Which reports says 'No trouble spots' and the German TUV survey backs that up. You may hear of problems witha Transfer Box on the TOD variants but the problems affected pre-facelift models and then only very few instances. Have alook at the UK Kia Forums site.

Hi

We tow an Elddis Storm with Kia Sorrento 2.5 diesel and have taken it abroad two years running for two and three months and had no problems at all. I believe the Storm being a twin axle 8 metre caravan is virtually the same specification as your caravan. You should have no problems at all.

I have just bought a sorrie xt model on a 55 plate afetr using Audi A6 avant.

the difference is massive, you do not know the van is there just make sure you use the cruise control or keep an eye on the speedo as it will just keep going past the legal limit.

Great view of the road ahead
