Has anyone got a copy of the October 06 Practical Caravaner. I have a subscription but have passed that copy on. I urgently need to talk to someone regarding the towcar review for the Chrysler 300c tourer. A back copy will take 2 -3 weeks to arrive which will be too late.

Towing..weighing as much as a 4x4 and packing a knockout diesel,the 300c has all the atributes of a good tow car.....

..the car is wide so 'van won't dominate rearview. But the trump card is apparent when you move and the engine tugs with ease. the only fly in the ointment is the parking brake,you depress with you foot.

Performance ........V6 offers plenty of go and pretty good economy..34.9 comb solo,0-62 8.6 secs

Practicality..small windowcompromise the viewat rear corners...narrow door to estate boot...comfy seats.

Verdict compared to its rivals the chrysler exibits some dynamic shortcomings, and can't touch luxury marques build quility or sophisticated subtlety. but this last point boosts its appeal. while a BMW or Audi will slink into the background , the Chrysler demands attention. It is solidly built, spacious, well equipped and very relaxing to drive. If you want a luxury car tht draws attention, this could be it.

I have 4x4 but am thinking of down sizing. This is one of the few 2 wheel drives that could tow it. (I think)!

Think you are right . It should tow mine (1650kg )as a lot of cars could BUT it has a decent max nose weight (100 kg) unlike the rest (usually 75 ish )

Chrysler are part of Mercedes Benz, so the engine, gearbox and final transmission are from the current E-class 3 litre V6 diesel

That V6 diesel engine is just stunning - the E-class has a slightly different power output (233bhp 550NM) and a seven speed gearbox as standard - meaning a 0-62mph time of under 7 seconds - and under 10 seconds towing our caravan - and it's almost impossible to hear the engine when inside the car

The MB style foot brake is OK - you only use it when parking - both the Chrysler and the E-class (should - check specifications) have SBC-H (electronic hold brake - tap the brake pedal when you stop and it holds the brakes on for you - press the accelerator and they auto-release - rather good for hill starts)

The Chrysler uses the floor plan from the previous E-class - no problems there - and of course it's own body and interior.

If you wanted someone else to eat the initial depreciation for you, there's a fair number of 12 month old E-class saloons and estates around (used by Hertz - and sold on with less than 15000 miles) at this moment (registration plate change)
