We've just had our first weekend away with our Elldis Storm and our 04 Toyota Hi Lux. The motor pulled well without so much as a twitch but it did lose ground on the hills. Once or twice I even needed to change down which I was a little dissapointed about. I'm now considering having the motor "chipped" if its possible. I've e mailed Superchip but have had no reply. Otherwise the Hi Lux does well and gives plenty of room for extras in the back.
 
Try turbo chips, Superchips tend t just boost the fueling. I expect there is a Hi Lux forum where you can speak to others who have chipped their Hi Lux and see what has been good and bad. Not all chips are equal

I had a Hilux-Surf for 2 years and it was a brilliant tug.
