Hello all

Having found useful advice on caravan to buy I now seek advice on car. Total novice but I know my car can pull the weight. Don't know anything about nose weight etc. Is my car up to it? Do I need to Balance? the van?

I don't have a Bentley and don't plan to tow it with a yacht or a 50cc scooter or a spaceship or anything daft like in another thread.

Help gratefully received.

Gordon,

I tow with a CRV 2.2 Diesel which has a kerbweight of 1647kg ( 85% =1391) with a towing limit of 1500k and a noseweight limit of 100kg. My 'van's MTPLM is 1190kg so it's overpowered easily by the CRV.

The Bretagne MTPLM is 1409kg so it's a little over the recommended 85% but not by much and I can't imagine you'd have any problems as long as the van is carefully packed with the weight distributed evenly front to back.

Hope this helps,

Pete...

I tow a Bailey Pageant Provence S7 with a 55 plate CRV 2.2. I find it very stable and have had no problems towing at the legal limit, Hill starts are no problem and the automatic 4wd is usefull when towing off a wet grassy pitch. Reversing can be a bit tricky as reverse gear is quite high. Cruising on the motorway is relaxed - you will probably use 5th gear a lot more than 6th. I get about 24 - 25 mph towing and up to 42+ solo.
