We tow our Swift Charisma 565 { 6 berth] with this car.

It is excellent and pulls the caravan like a dream.

If you are looking for a great tow car/4wd this could be the one for you.

We were up and down hills in 6 th gear without a problem.

If anyone wants more info just ask! { No I don't work for Honda before you all ask. We just love it to bits.

We have a '56 mark II CR-V i-CTDi which works well as a tow car and also as an everyday vehicle. We towed home from Folkestone to Leicester last week and recorded 39.3 mpg !! admittedly its Motorway for all but 10 miles but I think it's still pretty impressive for a SUV 2.2l 140BHP motor.

Pete..

Ps We also have a Jazz and our kids drive Civics, one a 1990 and the other a 2008; they love 'em.

Not quite, just one up from that !

a Lunar Quasar 462 1150kg.

We weren't in a hurry and drove at 50 or so all the way; I have done similar journeys at 60 on cruise control and the CR-v returned 28/29 mpg. so for the sake of 45 mins I gain 10 mpg for what it's worth!

It also meant I wasn't dodging around HGVs every 5 minutes; much more relaxing.

Interestingly I find that the CR-V setup is more efficient in 5th gear than 6th for nearly all my towing activity with the exception of long very flat stretches at 60mph.

I guess it's a combination of where the torque band is in relation to the gearing. The CR-V definitely works best for towing between 1500 and 2500 rpm. Max torque is around the 2000rpm mark.

That pretty impressive Pete.

I looked at the CRV before i bought another xtrail, 138bhp and 251 lb/ft was an increase over my old 2.2 xtrail.

Unfortunately a smaller boot was a let down, i was looking for more boot space, and to get the reverse camera meant buying the model with those big wheels with low profile tyres, not a fan of low profile tyres. To compound that we found the car ugly, no matter how hard we tried to like it.

I actually think the old model looks great, if only that rear mounted tyre was in the boot.

But anyway i can believe the CRV returns 39mpg, the official figures are around 4mpg more than my 171bhp xtrail,(266 lb/ft) and i can get 33mpg (computer reading) towing 1333kg at up to 60mph.

I would be interested to see what i would get at 50mph, but i don't like to hold the lorry drivers up!

I'm one of those sad gits who keep a spreadsheet of brim-to-brim refuels and I have found that the computer mpg is usually a little on the low side so you may actually be getting a bit more than you think. I like the MkII full size spare on the back; it's more accesible when the boots loaded and you're towing. (Never had to test it yet though, touch wood!)
