Honda CRV Tyre choice

My son hasa 2.2 diesel CRV (old style) which I plan to buy in the spring. It will only be used as a second tow car but since we use CLs a lot I would like to avoid a situation where a 4wd has no more traction than a 2wd when exiting a CL. It needs a set of tyres now so he has asked me to choose the tyres that would be best for our useage. At the moment it is fitted with Grabber UHP which are quite extreme unidirectional and which give minimal grip when not on tarmac.

Any inputs from vanners with CRVs would be welcome.

If you have a look on here 4x4 tyres & select the tyre size it will show how many of that size & the % of use

Thanks Sprocket but I was actually looking for some feedback from Forum members who have CRVs, or similar cars such as RAV4.

I have the later 2007 model 2.2 cdti and came with H rated M&S [ mud and snow tyres as standard they give excellent grip on snow with traction control on but if on muddy field switch of traction control and give excellent grip for a non lockable 4 wheel drive- wont match likes of discos etc with low range lockable. Hope this helps.

I replaced the original Bridgestones (a bit hopeless in terms of lifespan) on my 55 plate icdti with Michelin Latitudes. I have found them very good in terms of grip and longevity.

I am happy with dunlop sp20 tyres, had them on two xtrails, good grip, good on wet grass, snow, the wet, and with a good life span, had two fitted all in on the last xtrail for

I run a RAV4 and would wholly recommend the Mitchelin Latitude Cross tyre.

It's an all season tyre with an asymetrical tread pattern and performs well on all surfaces - our current snowy conditions have been a good test.

I previously ran Vredestein Wintrac Extremes (also a good tyre) but felt that they wore out rather quickly (less than 12K). But they had a better turn in and feel when pressing on solo.

I would also say that they were not quite as good on muddy grass or loose snow - probably because the tread pattern is less 'chunky'. Saying that I had no problems towing a 1450kg caravan uphill off a waterlogged pitch at Luss this past summer using a fairly worn set of the Vredesteins!
