I have the new Santa Fe 2.2 CDX 7 seat, self leveling, and tow an Avondale Argente 650-6 MPTLM 1700kg (I know not within the 85% guide). Although I think it could do with a bit more bhp (for some big hills in cornwall) it tows fantastic (in my view). I think it should tow your Provence no problem. I did have a Kia Sorrento, however the MPG killed me both solo and towing. The Santa Fe was a very good compromise and has returned 44mpg solo on the motorway at a steady 60mph.

Not seen many reviews myself.

Hi Neil,

Our circumstances are very similar. We have a Bailey Pageant Burgundy on order and have just changed a Mazda 6 diesel estate for a Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 CDX 5 seat version. The kerbweight is 1863kg and you would be towing at 76%. The nose weight limit is 88kg ( only 80kg for auto ). The 5 seat version does not have the self-levelling suspension of the 7 seat but having seen how little the car settles when loaded I think I can manage without. Unfortunately we are still running in so I can't give you actual towing experience. I did get as much feedback as I could before buying and it was all positive. The car itself is excellent, the panel fit and paint finish is as good as you will find. The engine is smoother than the Mazda and the Santa Fe is quieter at speed but not as quick as the Mazda which I consider a superb towcar but not heavy enough for my needs. The only negative comment I have relates to the audio system. It comprises cassette, 6 CD autochanger and radio but the radio is not RDS which can be a nuisance and there is no way of changing it.

Hi John,

We've got a Pageant Burgundy on order too, however my car is Mazda 6 2.0 diesel do you think it will be up to it?

According to the Mazda brochure, the kerbweight of the 2.0 diesel is between 1440kg (base equipped 4 door) and 1595kg (fully equipped estate) so you'd be between 97% and 88% with your weight ratio depending on the model. The maximum permissible towload is 1600kg, so you'd be well within legal limits. Based on these figures, I would therefore rate the car adequate but not good as a towcar for the Burgundy if it's the 143hp version and marginal if it's a 121hp one.

Hi Michael,

Not sure from your post if you are already towing with your Mazda or not. You will not be far away from the recommended 85% with the Burgundy with your Mazda, perhaps I am just being a bit cautious. I used to tow a Bailey Ranger 460/2 with the Mazda (136bhp - 5 speed) and it would maintain high sixties mph on the autoroutes without gear changing on all but the steepest inclines and is absolutely rock steady when overtaking HGV's. Powerwise I think you will be OK towing the Burgundy, in my case it is just belt and braces.

My Mazda is 04My(54plate) 136bhp and kerbweight is 1515kg so would be towing at 92%. Have only towed my old caravan once with it which was much lighter than the burgundy as have only had the Mazda a few months, so will have to see how it goes.

Hi guys

I'm of the same opinion as John, My masda is a 05 plate 136bhp mazda and i currently towe a bailey ranger 550/6 which it manages more than adequately. However with the new Provence due in March it would be at 92% ish? in addition i intend to do a lot more towing this summer and i'm thinking of the safety aspect & belt and braces (i've only been touring for 18 months)

Having looked at several 4x4's i think the new Santa fe offers an exceptional value for money compared to the others regarding specification and waranty.

Hi,

if its as good as the prevoios version Santa Fe ( and everything says it is far better) then it will be a belter. The 5 year warranty will never be used!

Hi Neil,

Weve got 2.00 CRDT Santa Fe. Tows our Compass 534 like a dream and we've been around much of France and Spain where it is as solid as a rock especially on the motorways. The new 2.2 will have even more torque and weight and the 5 year warranty kind of seals the deal. Go get one!

I have just got my CDX7 last week. not towed yet but the kerbweight is 1860 KG and the car will be ideal for my Coachman as a replacement for my Frontera. The CRD technology makes the engine so quiet and resposive I am still getting used to it. I am averaging over 35 mpg in all mix of driving although I have not towed yet. In fact can you other users tell me what tow bar you have. Not many seem to make them andf I want a removable if possible without having to cut the bumper away. Both Brink and Witter say theirs is not available for a month or so yet. Witter do a fixed without cutting but Bosal tell me the bumper needs cutting. Can you help? I agree with the other comments about the car. Fantastic value for the money with all the equipment and that 5 year warranty! But the Radio is a pain. No rds is so archaic. I am enquiring about another.

Many Thanks

DavidC
