I have been away from PC Forum for a few weeks, but kept dipping in occasionally to check on you all,I have had issues with my own PC the one that involves a lady doctor exploring your bottom, and long story short am being treated for Prostate Cancer, add in 10days in hospital with Vertigo and 20206 has not been good so far. I am full of praise for all the staff at RUH Bath for the way they are looking after me,so please any of you men on here who may have any doubts, please do not delay, get a PSA test done, it is a blood test first , and could save your life.

On another issue involving my PC, I was in France in August and was using my laptop, when Microsoft blocked my e mail account, claimimg suspicious activity, since then I have tried every which way I can to get it back, when I made a data access request they refused to accept it saying I needed to make the request via my account, yes the account that they blocked.

They have admitted the decision to block was made by AI, because the login came from France, yes France in August and after 10 days of using the e mail.

OK I now have a new gmail that I can use , but the old e mail has some of my hospital details, along with other personal documents, insurances etc.

Latest straw Microsoft have closed my complaint.

Any suggestions, how to get the e mail back please?

I dumped Microsoft a few months ago due to various hassles. I am now using Thunderbird and Libreoffice all free of charge. Initially the change was a challenge for me, but now no more issues except a saving on the 365 account. Libreoffice does everything that Microsoft office does so no issue with MS documents or spreadsheets.

How did you try to access your email account? Was this via the browser based Outlook.com or through the Outlook desktop program or via MS Office?

Hello Sam
I tried to reset using their reset option, got as far as we will send you a code to mobile, never sent code
I tried their 'complete a form ' said insufficient information.
I used their on line chat said 'trying to help you' security says no
I wrote to the CEO 3 times asking for intervention no joy.
Yes via Outlook,
They also asked for an alternative e mail account , so gave them my g mail, said enter the code, which they didn't send

Hi Buckman

My problem is not that I have no e mail, I set up a new g mail account.

The problem is I have no access to my old e mail, and Microsoft are proving a law to them selves.

There are things I need, and also I am getting reminders in the post that I have not renewed some subscriptions because the companies involved are using my blocked e mail.

As far as I am concerned Microsoft customer service stinks, a view that many on Trustpilot seem to share.

I first worked with spreadsheets in the early '80s - on paper! and then switched to Lotus 123 in the mid-80s. I've been using LibreOffice now for several years, after I lost access to my paid-for MS Office when my laptop hard-drive crashed and I wouldn't pay the subscription for MS 365. It works well and will read/translate all the old formats.

This is the reason any thing of importance I always print off, so I have an hard copy. This proved worth doing recently when I had an issue with a Solicitor. Fortunately i had the Email from them in 2021 which I had printed, and I was able to produce it. This saved a lot of hassle, and a considerable amount of money.

I will export important emails as PDF to my ICloud account, plus some I will also print dependent on the subject.

First point..... have you checked your Gmail spam box in case the code email went in there?

Second point - I asked how you actually retrieved your emails - i.e which method - because depending on that its possible your emails may be stored on your computer and can be retrieved without logging in to MS.

Just to add some further information at the risk of info overload.

There are two different types methods for email delivery and receiving. POP and IMAP.

In the case of POP, your emails will be stored on your computer and not accessible from any other machine. These days the push is to use IMAP, because your emails are stored on a server and can be accessed from any machine. However, IMAP can also be set up to deliver the emails to your computer and stored there. So depending on how you've set up your email service and what program you use to do it, emails may be on your computer.

As another point of interest, I use a hybrid approach. On my home workstation I set the email program -MS Office Outlook - to use POP. When away from home with laptop or phone I set them to IMAP. Then when I get home and fire up my workstation email it downloads all the emails to that and removes them from the mobile devices.

Have you tried logging in via "Outlook on the web" as you would on say a library computer? That is through a browser, be that Edge , Chrome etc., rather than directly through the Outlook app.
If not it might be worth a try, just carefully log out when finished.

Re storage of what matters, I use a home Network Attached Storage unit that runs two drives holding the same data. Plus attached to this a third drive where I can copy the mega sensitive stuff, the latter I have set up with an addition level of encrypted.
These I can access from any machine at home and both our mobile phones when not at home. I let the free Cloud store stuff I keep on the computer, but I habitually keep what is on any computer really pruned back; not see much logic in leaving that on them, and possibly more expossed.

Hello Sam

Each time they said they would send a code it was supposed to be a text to my mobile
Your post #5 indicates that they asked for an alternate email address to which they could send a code which was your new gmail account.
