introduction to caravaning

As a long term caravaner myself I am helping my mate convince his wife that caravaning can be a lot of fun, but they would like to try it before he commits himself to spending a lot of money on bying a van. Can anyone advise me where he can hire a van just for a long weekend to start with. I have tried this and found he can only hire one for the week for £250 wich seems a bit expensive just for the weekend as at this time of the year it's not possible for either of us to take a week off of work.We live in the Bristol/S. Glos area.

Hi Alan - try Swindon caravans. We went there to hire one a few years ago before buying ourselves. But we didnt hire one - they had a lovely Eccles that we couldnt resist so we bought one instead!!!

Where i live (not uk) dealers often offer a 'try/purchase' scheme for hire caravans. It is possible to hire a caravan for a week or so then if everything is to your satisfaction the caravan can be bought for a price minus the hire costs.
