Jacking up a van

Advice please..........Does the towcar need to be attached to the caravan when jacking up, this would be to level or change a wheel.

Thanks

To level, no. The caravan should be standing on its own so that it has freedom of movement in roll and pitch.

To change a wheel, yes, for safety's sake to prevent the caravan from moving and falling off the jack.

When you have your caravan serviced they don't hitch up to remove the wheels for brake examinations , and they usually only use one jack for the process and side steadies .

STEVE.

Having had a caravan fall off the jack during maintenance I would never, ever, jack the caravan without it attached to the towcar.

To level, I just reverse with a ramp under the lower wheel.
