Just a bit of advice needed on kettles and potentially other electrical accessories please. We're new caravanners and setting up what we need I buy. If we're likely always going to be in a mains hook up, do we need a low voltage kettle etc or is a standard one ok? Read various things which seems to be conflicting in advice

Standard kettle is fine. We bought a cheep travel kettle as there' are only two of us, saves a bit of space. We haven't bought anything to work on 12v.

We always used a standard domestic kettle as the specific lower wattage caravan ones were overpriced. Even in Europe the domestic kettle was fine on lower amperage hook ups.

Standard kettles are now a waste of money as many sites are cutting back to 10amp instead of 16amp so a 2000w (8.3amp) kettle will probably trip the mains especially if the hot water heating kicks in while the kettle is being boiled.

If you are near Worcester we have an almost brand new Swiss Lux kettle available. It is still in its box as we no longer have a caravan. It is 1000w(4.16amp).

I think it may depend on what else you are using on the electric at the same time. So depending on the level of available power if you use a standard kettle, toaster, hot water on, hairdryer etc you may trip the power.

We do use low voltage appliances but more importantly I think, is to be aware of the total draw you may be using at any time. I know this because I may have tripped the power a couple of times from over usage 🤣

I think the biggest issue is the hot water switching back on to keep the temperature up and that is when the bollard trips. Got that T shirt which is why we bought the 1000w kettle last year.

Our old 1000w kettle which we had used for many years was well past it sell by date so we bought a 2200w Tesco kettle. Then we realised why we used the 1000w kettle. LOL!

There are several manufactures that produce domestic kettles at 1000 watts, Russel Hobbs, Quest, Judge just to name some. They are lower capacity than the mainstream domestic kettles but less expensive than “dedicated” caravan kettles.

Thank you, unfortunately we're not near you, we're East Yorkshire but thanks for the advice, will look at one like that

We use a light weight 1500 w kettle and have the small gas kettle , with whistle, you just need to be aware of what power your using, Mrs H doesn't dry her hair if she is making a cup of tea or boiling eggs using the electric hob.

We did buy a small 900w light weight kettle took ages to boil and could only do 2 cups of water.

From searching a few Web sites it looks like most travel kettles are 1000 w or below as well.
