Kia Carens

Just a quick mention for the Kia Carens.

I dont see too many of these towing caravans, but the 2.0 CRDI is a really great tow car. We've been towing our S6 Pageant Burgundy all over the place for the last 12 months, and it never seems to struggle at all. A 1400kg caravan is a good 85% match, and the mpg isnt too bad. We towed from Scunthorpe to Newquay a few weeks ago, and stopped off to fill up at Cribbs Causeway near Bristol, I was getting 35mpg. The boot space isnt huge when the back seats are up, but if you drop them down, its massive.

Just thought people might want to know of a reasonable cheap alternative to the larger of the Kia ranges.

cheers

Rick

Hi Rick,

I can agree with your post as we have one too, ours is the Mk3 on a 58 plate, it pulls like a train.

You may not see many of these cars towing as the max towing weight is only 1250kg...againt the Primera which is 1500kg... and the Mondeo is 1800kg.. and the Sorento is 2000kg

Not sure where you got your figures from Eddie, but you are incorrect the max tow is 1500kg against the kerbweight of 1657kg equalling 90% which is more than enough.

Sorry for not replying, we've been away in the van, I was definately getting 35mpg on the run to Bristol, although on shorter non motorway runs, Im getting around 27mpg while towing. I seem to be getting far better mpg generally since I went over the 25000 mile mark . Im averaging mid to high 40's regularly solo, having said that, 90% of my driving is on motorways. Towing weight is definately 1500Kg on my 58 plate version, although I cant speak for the older models.
