Anybody seen the advert on tv for the new kia sorento EV everyone knows they make good tow cars but i was wondering if the EV would be the standout EV tow car

Looking at the KIA website the Sorento is not an EV it is a PHEV with around 30 miles battery range. The Outlander has gained some fans albeit with a modest towing load, so perhaps the new Sorento could do the same.

It’s a 1.6 petrol turbo hybrid with 1500 kg towing limit. But being a weighty beast it should be stable towing 1500 kg. In Oz the diesel has now been introduced at 2000 kg tow limit not the anticipated 2500 kg. Lots of sad Ozzies. But UK the diesel is 2500 kg.

The standard Sorento 1,6 GTDI engine tows 1650kg, and it is a mild hybrid with a very small battery. Just enough to look better in the global emissions test. The PHEV had probably been downgraded to allow for its larger140 kg batteries....heavy.

You would need to look at how you use the car to see which if either would suit you. They may be heavy, all hybrids will be, but weight does help with stability, so if you can live with them they should be stable although a bit pedestrian.

Under 9 seconds to solo isn't that pedestrian" and both the HEV and PHEV have virtually the same torque and acceleration. But the torque without battery assist will be the deciding factor. I suspect that the diesel variant will be the last of the line. Unlikely to see larger petrol variants as the manufacturers have to keep "fleet" emissions below a specified level and too many gas guzzlers adversely affect that target.
