hi

does anyone tow a swift charisma 555 2007 with a kia sportage just wondering if it feels stable, thinking of buying the kia or has anybody got any other recommendations of tow cars.

thanks

Hi Chris,

Just bought a Kia Sportage XE. Only travelled about 600 miles so far and towed van about 20 miles around steep hills. I had a freelander before. It seems to pull a lot better, the 6 speed box makes a difference and it is a little wider than the Freelander. So far, though it's early days, I am very pleased and looking forward to the next few weekends away.

hi alex

what is the noseweight of the van you tow,the charisma is around 90kg virtually empty, my car is a vectra 1.9cdti sri 78kg noseweight.Car pulls ok but sometimes feels unstable not quite sure what it is.I load the caravan with heavy items over the axle etc, could it be my suspension as its lower on an sri. Most cars are 75kgs including the sportage so i'm a bit unsure what to do.

results from whattowcar.com for this outfit:

The towing capability for the Kia Sportage - 2.0 CRDi [4WD]

with a Swift Charisma 555: (five stars)

also gives it an 87% match, however I would check the noseweight for the Sportage - you may be better with an XTrail or CRV. Mark (",)

as you thought, from the Kia website:

Max ball weight 75 75 75 (kgs, for all models)

I seem to remember that the CRV DIESEL has a max ball weight of 100kgs. Mark (",)

hi we have the new kia sedona 07 plate and its fantastic that has a 85 max towball weight. we did look at the sportage its we was going to have one of those but not enough room really for us and the dog in her cage. but for a small family it really nice.

Hi

I tow a Lunar fixed bed at 1300kg with a 138 bhp Sportage. I think the Sportage is the best tow car I have owned, even better than my C5HDI. Excellent stability, tows well in 6th gear up to the legal limit plus with the added bonus of good mpg. I agree that the 75kg nose weight limit could be a problem with some unit but I have no difficulty in keeping below this with my caravan.

Reference the nose weight. We tow an Aventura 316. I thought the nose weight would be a problem but the back of the sportage hardly moved and the van felt really good on the back.
