Hi we are thinking of this site for summer next year. Has anyone been there and what do they think. Or any other recommendations for the Vendee area for two families with children. Thanks. Denise

Denise,

Been there twice and would highly recommend it, one of my favourite parks. It's a member of the Castels group and has the largest pitches I have ever been on. I would recomend going for one of the serviced pitches with water and drainage. Toilet and shower blocks are kept very clean as indeed is the entire site. There is an outdoor heated pool with separate children's pool and also two water chutes into another separate area. Bar/restaurant with sitting area overlooking the pool and also a food takeaway. There is a small shop on site selling basics including fresh bread and there is a supermarket close by. Surrounded by woodlands with plenty of walks, couple of small lakes adjacent, boating available on one of these. There is some organised activities, entertainment on some evenings in high season, archery, horse riding available. Far enough away from the coast to avoid all the rush and hassle but at the same time very convenient to get to different coastal towns such as L'Sables D'Ollone or St Jean de Monts. Wish I was there right now!

Any other specific info, please ask.

Robert

Thanks Robert, wish I was going this year now!

We would go for a multi serviced pitch and hope to be able to book two together. Are there shaded pitches or any that you know ofin a particularly nice spot? I don't know how early you can book this site, but I have emailed them today.

One more question, did you book independantly or through an agent/company. Thanks again Denise

Denise,

All the pitches have borders of bushes and/or trees, most of the pitches have at least a degree of shade although there are what appears to be newer pitches towards the rear of the site where the trees and bushes have still to reach a size where they will provide some shade.

Staff in reception all appeared to speak good English so if you were booking direct with the site you should have no communication problems.

On the two occasions I went I booked through Select Sites. I would recommend them, good service and fair prices.I go normally late June early July so its not that busy at that time. First year we went it was March of same year when we booked. The potential problem of booking via an agency is that they have limited numbers of pitches and popular sites like L'Garangoire can be in demand. The agents allocation can be full while the site still has vacancies.

I would suggest you compare prices of booking direct with site and ferry via web and with someone like Select Sites.

Denise,

Re travelling time. We travelled Portsmouth - Caen, then approx 6 hours easy driving from there. Couldn't say about from Roscoff but would imagine slightly longer. We stuck to the main roads, I can only remember the final section being a toll road and didn't cost that much. Don't know if you have travelled in France before but their roads are much better and with less traffic than ours.

I telephoned the site today to see how early we could book as we would like two pitches together and they won't take any bookings for 2008 until Nov. They basically give all the people that are there this summer the chance to rebook and then offer whats left in Nov. Is this usual practice? Denise

Denise,

Regards booking. When are you planning on going? Both times we were there was late June early July and although the site was busy there were still a few spaces. I have booked in the March and was able to get in for late June so I think you should be alright.
