I'm looking at a Laguna 1.9DCI estate year 2000. Thats the older more reliable version. (I drive a 2Ltr petrol 2Ltr estate years 1998).

Looking at "parkes" web site they say the DCI can tow 1650Kgs, my 2 Ltr petrol can tow 1400Kgs and be within manufacturers tow capacity and the gross train weights as checked on a weigh bridge.

I was just wondering if the DCI diesel is significantly better than the more common DTI version?

What I'm looking at is fuel economy, performance, reliability etc.

Cheers.

no such thing as a reliable renault. to many electrical and computer problems. look on ebay at the amount of cheap renaults that require fixing.

Hi Steve

I had a 2002 mk 2, 2.2dci. I thought the 1.9dti was the original Laguna diesel engine fitted in the mk1 not the mk2.??

My 2002 had teh common rail injection systema nd proved a winner. I had it from new and it was still going very well when I changed it at over 90,000.

Most of its life was spent motorway bashing and pulling our then Bailey Pageant Vendee.

My mate now has teh mk3 with the 1.9dci which easily gives him 50mpg on the mororways.

The 1.9dti fitted in the mk 1 was a well tried and tested unit making up 50% of the then Laguna output.

There is truth in Paul's statement regarding electrical problems. I had a hell of time getting the self levelling suspension on my mk1 petrol estate fixed.

You are right guys, the laguna's from 2001 known as Laguna 11, are about as trustworthy as a banker.

They suffer horendous electronic dash problems and the key card starter goes west more frequently than trains.

What I'm looking at is the face lifted mk1. In 1998 they were given plastic headlights to comply with latest pedestrian crash protection.

The vast majority of the diesel's were the DTI version, but as production was phased out the lats few estates recieved the newer 1.9 DCI motor.

My 1998 petrol 2Ltr has nowdone 192'000 miles and only recently had the head off for the first time revealing near zero wear in the cylinders, but needing two valaves replacing. Of coarse it went back together with a new "Gates" cam belt which now takes the old girl up to 250K before that needs doing again.

I just thought that after 4 years of towing at the max and over 100k miles, it was time to give her an easier life. but just try finding a decent replacement.

As a workhorse, the laguna mk1 serves me very well, I can load the boot with either a 40Kg chocky Lab, or 200+ Kgs of work tools with ease.

What I'm looking for is some owner info so that I can decide if it's DCI or TDI I go for.

I must admit Ive been spoilt over the years with R25's which I affectionately nick named "the arm chair". Renault certainly did build comfort into thier cars if nothing else. Tried a Passat and a Golf and nearly crippled my back as did the Audi's. I'm afraid I'm not a fan of the blue oval brand and still think of them a tacky dagenham dustbins.

Of coarse, unless Renault ditch sageme and get a proper electrical firm in to do the dash gizmo's soon, i will have to re-think.
