Leaking Turbo problem

Hi, we have just been told that the tubo is leaking and needs replacing on our Seat Alhambra 2006 model.

Thankfully its covered under warranty but I wondered is it anything to do with towing. Or the fact that we had the engine remapped up to 115bhp. This was done in a Seat garage. Or is it just one of those things??

Thanks in advance

Brenda

I'm fairly certain that the remapping won't be the cause since I think you'll find the same turbo used on the more powerful models without a problem.

If you use the turbo a lot when towing, perhaps by towing a 'van which is on the car's towing limit, then this may cause the turbo casing to build up enough heat to damage it. Is there an uprated intercooler available for this car which may help keep the induction temperature down?

Other than that it's probably just bad luck.

We run a 2001 115 TD PD (uprated to 135 and 100k on the clock) towing a van with a MTPLM of 1700Kg and have towed with this car for 3 years - no problems with the turbo.

I think you may have just been unlucky.

Brenda, make sure they clean out the intercooler, as oil may be still in there. A quick and easy upgrade is to increase the size/volume of the intercooler. Bazz.
