lock your caravan !!!!!!!!

hello people,

having just returned from a trip around somerset, devon and cornwall i was horrified by the amount of people who didn't use any security on their vans/folding fans or trailer tents when at the motorway services and it's just not just old outfits, i made a point of speaking to one couple in a brand new swift and range rover and the reply i got...."i'm only going to be five minutes".........

so come on people don't become a statistic put a clamp on your van if you have to leave it at the services or beter still do what i do.......go one at a time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gobsmacked .......markyp.

'or better still .......go one at a time' So often I await the swift return of 'only be a minute' s.w.m.b.o. - cannot wait any linger so use the on board facilities - and wonder if anyone is eyeing up the seemingly unattended unit. Will I be abducted whilst er. otherwise engaged ?

hi

yes we all say we'll only be a minute____and it always takes longer, but!!! believe me it takes seconds to take an unattended car and caravan.thieves make it there business to trawl service stations just waiting for the 'FOOL' AND I MEAN 'FOOL' THAT LEAVES THEIR CAR AND VAN and toddles off to the loo__or to get refreshment thinking it'll never happen to me.AS SOON AS YOU'R OUT OF SIGHT THEY'LL POUNCE.so please dont be complacement at service stations___or anywhere you leave your van unattended on a jouney because 'you'll lose it'.

Well at leaast they won't have a caravan any more and thsi will help free up pitches for us to use. No sympathy for morons who have more money than sense!

thats a bit harsh, i would say people are more nieve than anything, but good point. we always put a clamp on ours. its terrible tho isnt it that we have to be like that.

Harsh or not, I'm afraid I agree with klarky.

I have posted before on just how easy it is to "take your pick" of unsecured vans or boat trailers on service areas. After all if you pulled up in a van looking like a recovery vehicle and jumped out doning your high vis jacket, who would suspect you let alone challenge you?

For the sake of 5 minuits why not pop the hitch lock on or have a sas clamp that goes through the caravan wheel just to show you have a secure mindset. After all you wouldn't leave your keys in the ignition of your car, would you!!

I wouldn't be suprised at all if your insurance company refused to cough up if there was no hitch lock or clamp on the caravan. They can check the cctv to varify.

Also the thief will use false plates on his tow tug and have a spare plate with doublesided tape on it to peel and slap over your van plate.

Trust me, a thief doesn't need a security advisor like me to show them how to do the job, they are already well versed and will take the easy pickings first. So why tempt them with your valuables?
