Hi All

Has anyone had a diesel car (4x4) converted to duel fuel?

What are your conclusions?

Can you recommend a specialist to undertake a conversion?

Thanks

Hi Sd

We have two oil burners at home & I thought about it some time ago,

I remember reading about this years ago when it was first banded about, from what I have just read the payback time for it fitting on a HGV is about 10months, well how much fuel do they use in a day ? week ?

Have a look here and read the bottom of the page regarding price.

I have just worked out quickly I can do 38500 miles for the price of this conversion.

Ok a smaller 4 x 4 will not cost as much to convert

Make sure you have a seat & drink nearby.

You don't "covert" diesels to LPG. The gas is an "assistor", and the cost would be horrendous!Sell the horrible noisy smelly thing, buy a petrol, then convert.

Hi Salad Dodger, yes you can convert diesel to run WITH LPG. The cost is expensive and you still have to use both diesel and lpg. All that lpg provides is a better ingition of the fuel air mix, hence a better burn. The idea is mainly for the heavy trucks or anything over 2.5 ltrs, thats running all week up and down the highways and byways. If you have a look on the lpga web site it may give you more info. There was a guy running a Disco 300 Tdi in the Scottish Rally Championship last year. Hope this helps, Bazz.

PS I,ve just converted my comp motor, V8 Auto, to run on lpg half the cost of unleaded. Bazz.

Yeah, well, I admit to being a little bit biased!! I've run Range Rover V8s for twelve years now on LPG, and wouldn't have anything else.
only reason i have two oil burners is so we dont have a mix up at the pumps

seen it so many times

new petrol car filled with diesel & the other way round

saw a nice porche 4x4 being pushed off the pumps at asda the other day....

Hello Salad dodger,

The only problem i can see with this is the cost. Not to long ago we assisted in the conversion of an industrial diesel engine to dual fuel. The conversion in its self was not difficult,The research and development was. This is the cost factor. It involved a stand alone ECM with a data link facility(CAN),Extra tank, injection nozzles, etc. The jist of it was very clever,i.e under neutral or no load conditions it operated on just L.P.G.As time ticked by it got better and better, with adoption of updated software and revised parametres. It was calculated to be over a third more efficent on fuel usage but at the beginning of a five figure sum for the conversion.
