Mayday rescue, Vs the others.

We have had to use Mayday 3 times. twice towing, and once solo. It took less than an hour for each. We also used AA once many years ago. I think that was closer to 1.5 hours. And we did use the rescue service with our Grandvoyager when on French payage once. That took 2.5 hours due to huge misunderstanding on process.

I think they all could use the same contractor with a low loader? I worked for a independent small breakdown company for a couple of months way back in the early nineties and we got calls from AA, RAC and others requesting the one of the few low loaders in the area. No point in investing in another low loader as most of the time it would sit stationery waiting for an occasion to be used and it was money tied up.
One of the issues with AA/RAC is that only a patrol can authorise a flatbed so you have two wait periods, one for the patrol to get to you, only to find they can't fix it by the roadside and then another for the flatbed to get to you - this is in addtion to the other downside of AA/RAC where you incur additional waits for each relay changeover if you're a long way from home.
In contrast, Green Flag can be persuaded on the phone to sent a flatbed directly if you've been able to diagnose the issue yourself - the flatbed will then take you all the way to your destination without further waits.
Another advantage of Green Flag is that they'll recover car + caravan to home if the car is undriveable due to accident damage - which is better than using you car insurance which would only recover the car, and only to the nearest storage facility.

Correct as that is what Mayday did when we explained the fault. The car was completely dead. Nothing worked so ordered the low loader plus it being an AWD vehicle.

In my breakdown, it was the Electronic handbrake, stuck on, I told Mayday this and they agreed to a low loader, as it happened, I was restarting the car about every 15 minutes to see if the problem had cleared after replacing fuses. And 15 minutes before the LL turned up the problem cleared. I had the car booked into Hyundai for a check, but they cycled the system and deemed NO problem, 3 month later only just gaining confid in the handbrake system.

During my time as a Traffic cop it was Green Flag who always turned up the quickest.
The AA had the nickname of "The Atrocious Attenders" because their response times were glacial in comparison to GF.
Brittania Rescue were also pretty speedy operators.

For many years I used Britania Recuue via CSMA. Mainly because I got it at a reasonable price, and usually received excellent service. Though I do remember a couple of times when we had poor treatment. I put this down to them using local garages with very and varied ideas on customer service. I always put in a fair and honest review which I feel they took seriously.
The exception was when I had a wheel detachment in France. Cover is then provided by a German company based in Sheffield. Their response, together with the French roadside lack of any idea at all, was worse than bad. I could write a book! However, they did settle with a £1300 compensation payment.

I’m with Sytner Select for the Toyota and with Britannia LV for our Kia. Sytner Select came with the car, but when it runs out in March 2026, then the Toyota will transfer to Britannia LV. Stopped using Mayday when we sold the caravan, and have always had one car on Britannia for many years and when required found them very good.

Another one for Green Flag they were quick to come and take our car to a local garage for head gasket at the time we were away in Matlock Bath . But caravan was sorted with the person next door to us on campsite offered to take us home and drop caravan at storage some years ago .

I’ve got a service plan with Toyota but it doesn’t include breakdown as the car wasn’t purchased from a Toyota dealership. But I did achieve breakdown/recovery from Sytner.
I'm also with Green Flag as when I looked into it, they offered a similar level of cover [For my needs anyway] to the CAMC Mayday product, but significantly cheaper. Happily, touch wood, not had to call them out. That may change as my car gets older.

The difference is the weights and length of caravan are limited, on Green Flag, it is 3500 kg 2 metres high and 7 metres.long, So not a problem. Mayday is unlimited. Weight Height and length.
Green Flag just recovers you to a single point in the UK, Mayday does the Dual recovery, it takes you to your caravan site, and back home.
Difference for my car is Mayday £87, Green Flag, £63.
The difference between Green Flag direct and Mayday provided by Green Flag is that Mayday will cover a double journey - eg if your car breaksdown while out for the day on a caravan holiday they'll recover your car to the campsite and then take both car and caravan home - on different days if you choose - but Green Flag direct will only cover the car unless you were actually towing the caravan at the time.
