Shared network is not the same as shared ownership. The O2 network parent is Virgin Media O2, so after the merger there will still be three MNOs.The UK has just 4 basic networks for mobile comms - EE, O2, Vodafone and Three - I noticed that O2 and Vodafone have had a shared network agreement for over 10 years and the shared agreement will extend to the new Vodafone/Three merged network - so it looks to me as though we'll end up with just two networks with EE as a standalone network and Vodafone/Three/O2 as a larger combined network.
On one hand this is good news as the larger Vodafone/Three/O2 network should provide better cover but bad news as it reduces competition.

I as sure it was T mobile originally, then changed its name to something else.Wasn't it Everything Everywhere and came out of Orange but at some stage One2One, then T mobile merged into the group. Woodentop gave chapter and verse about a month ago and it's on Wikipedia too.

I have one phone on SPUSU, and find it excellent, if you have a problem you can even speak with a real person. For anyone interested and for personal reasons I have been looking around in the last few days. Anyone heard of Spusu? An Austrian company now operating as a MVNO on EE. If you want a simple deal with effectively no data try there very basic offer. 1GB data and unlimited calls and texts for £2.90 per month with a new number if required and which you can cancel at any time without penalty.
I am waiting for the SIM to arrive today so that I am well covered - my main SP is GiffGaff (O2) - to be able to use it whilst I am in hospital next week.
Thank you for a useful post. I’ve been with IDmobile for a year now and no issues with coverage around various places. Delightfully clear and simple website and low charges. Currently 70 gb and unlimited texts and calls £10 pm on months contract.I have one phone on SPUSU, and find it excellent, if you have a problem you can even speak with a real person.
My other phone is now on ID Mobile (3 Network), so far no problems but I have not been much outside my local area since taking up this option, so have limited basis for a comparison regarding network coverage etc.
I use Spusu mainly for phone tethering or connecting my router to when caravaning, have tried it across a range of areas in central Scotland and it has surpassed my expectations, best coverage I have experienced so far and with trouble free tethering etc, I'm really pleased with it and happy to recommend it; there are great value plan options that are hard to beat.
In time I may well make it my main phone service provider.
