Microwave

I own a 2013 Sprite alpine two berth, and looking for a microwave for it can anyone put any light on which ones are available and has anyone had one fitted to this model as space is limited in the overhead locker, my own caravan dealer in nothing short of useless, thanks,

As you say space is limited, you need to measure what you have available, then find a suitably sized microwave to fit.

Hello Nimrod, welcom to the forum, many people have changed their failed Microwaves, for new ones and they are normally the lower powered ones , srtaight from that big "Cuury shop, "that just fit into the empty hole.
If your fitting a new one you have to make sure that the ventilation system around the microwave is adequate and the power supply point is also suitable.
I hope others can help on the more technical points.

There's a YouTube video of your van, and it looks as though one of the two larger kitchen cupboards should accept a MW. You will need to consider how to restrain it on the move. Swift use an inverted u shape bracket the width of the MW with two holes at the front to locate the front feet of the MW. A 6mm plate slides into 2 channels from the front across the top of the MW to stop it jumping about. There is an air gap around the sides, bottom and top and to hide all this there is a plastic trim around the MW front. If you can have a look at an installation

Most caravan builders break that well known loading rule of not putting heavy weights in high cupboards 😗

Why not just buy a microwave to suit and have it free standing.......that is what I do and it is transported in the tow car and so does not use up caravan payload.
May not apply to you but I go off grid quite often so then the microwave can be left at home and is not carried unnecessarily.

If you go abroad or use sites with limited electrical supply be careful about the power requirements of any microwave you buy.
The stated power is the running power but MW usuall take a good deal more than this short term on start up. This can easily trip site breakers.
Find out the power ratings of MW fitted to caravans and stick with this.
Ovens having grills or browning elemenyts are likely to have much higher reqirements than basic models
As a very crude example a 1000 watt appliance on 220 volts will take 4.5 amps steady state, but your fridge will probably be taking a some as well together with the charger in the caravan. the peak inrush current may well trip a nominal 6 amp continental supply.

Personally I wouldn't bother fitting one.
They are not designed to fit inside a cupboard unless they are a built in appliance costing lots of cash, they need a lot of ventilation otherwise.

Also they weigh a lot, probably 30 pounds at a guess, I took mine out of the last caravan because it would sometimes trip the bollard, despite having it replaced the new one did the same.

Even allowing for the current consumption it would trip, which was at least 1200watts from memory, so not very efficient.

We replaced ours with a digital Daewoo from Makro saw the same in Asda for £50
Bailey used a piece of wood self tapping screwd to the base and then screwed to cabinet its been fine.

Firstly watch the payload as they are heavy and might just put you over the limit. (The VOSA people are reportedly checking vans.) We have one in our Coachman which I use when we are on a hook up but watch what else is on before starting it. Ours is fixed high up as usual with a lip restraining the feet and a piece of wood on top stopping it lifting. This is fixed in place with 2 spring clips so easily removed. You may need to check the depth to ensure the door still closes.
