I know a lot of you have been talking about Milencos recently, but I was wondering if anyone else had a problem with them? Ive had mine for a few years, too tight to buy some new ones, but I find that they are really tight in the ball socket. Its OK for me to move them, but my wife has a heck of a job to get them to adjust. I have over the years dismantled them a few times and packed them with grease, but to no avail. They are very tight to move the first mm and then they shoot off every which way because she has to apply such force to budge them. Im wondering if mine are a rogue pair, otherwise Im really not impressed.

Isn't that how they should be?

Set them up properly then mark the mirrors (or take other such steps as to ensure that they're fitted in exactly the same place each time) and store carefully!

After several years use I know pretty well exactly how mine fit to my mirrors.

Any adjustments I did myself, through the passenger window, as it was impossible to convey to SWMBO (as was) the fractions of movement that were required!

Tell me about it. Its hard to get fractions with these, as I said, they start tight then go all of a sudden. Because they are so tight, shes holding onto the arm with one hand so as not to damage the cars mirrors, and doing it one handed I can understand her problem.

Ive tried grease in the socket, powdered graphite and more, nothing seems to work. Never had this problem with other makes.

My Grand Aeros are much the same. Can't remember the last time I tried to adjust at the ball joint. I usually manage to fit them in exactly the same position every time. If not, I just loosen one clamp and swing the whole arm in or out until they're in the right position. Height's not a problem, I never raise or lower my seat and so far I haven't started shrinking. ;)

Here's an idea for MILENCO.

Cant you fit mirrors like most cars have these days with electric remote control so the driver can rough fit, then sit in the driving position and adjust them perfectly.

I claim copyright on the idea.20:48. 17th May 2016 mark

Intellectual property may be yours Prof but are they economically viable. Look forward to seeing you on Dragons Den. Not had a problem with our Milencos and I am the not very strong SWMBO who adjusts them. I do this from outside the car though. This is easier.

The long haired general doesnt understand basic engineering terms, like a smidge, and a gnats ***. :p

Her mind says a smidge is three inches and a gnats *** is basically infinity.

I wish I could do away with my Millencos and just use my car mirrors and the Caravan Camera, which is always on, not just when reversing. It got a fantastic area of veiw.

I suppose legally I need them..........just. I can almost see the full length of the caravan on the car mirrors, but I wouldnt like to argue it on a point of law. I believe the law says you must have uninterrupted vision down the fulkl length of both sides of the caravan.
In all honesty, even with those THINGS on, I still use the car mirrors.

The reason why she doesn't judge approximate measurements well could be because us men have been telling our better halves for years that
this ......................................................................................is six inches

If you are going to lie, lets keep it believable. Never heard of one that wide.

Unfasten the screw, clean both ball and socket, rub with a VERY fine paper or one of those green things that look like wire wool (but are plastic) to make both ball and socket ultra smooth* and then apply a smear of Teflon grease (Halfords) and reassemble.

*To make things very smooth an abrasive liquid cleaner such as Brasso is also very effective.

Woodentop, thanks. Did all that numerous times except for the Teflon. Will try anything now as they are on the verge of being binned. Would have done so long ago except I cant seem to find anything else any better.

Well I might consider funding any of then dragons but they'll have to do a good pitch first. But thinking about it they already have enough money so I'm out :p

The problem is you dont get the view down the side of the caravan that is both good sence and a leagal requirement, Also Camera's nned power , and if the power goes for what ever reason, your blind.

There really is no answer to that

Yes there is - Parksy's bragging again, anay one can see its only two inches on my screen

You know it's two inches, I know it's two inches, but it's easy to fool Herself by going metric because she went to school before we joined the EU  50.8 is a lot of millimeters
