Thinking of swapping my ageing Rorento for a newer Shogun.
Does anyone tow with one and if so what do you think and importantly for me whats the fuel consumption like.
Cheers in advance.

On my 3rd Shogun. Excellent vehicles both towing and solo . My present one is a 2004 long wheelbase 3.2 Di-d Elegance Auto which i have owned for 5 years. I get 28 to 32 mpg solo and 19 to 22 towing my 2007 twin axle Swift Conqueror MTPLM 1800 kgs.The Shogun is good in all weather conditions- we do a lot of winter caravanning irrespective of weather conditions. The automatic and tiptronic box is a dream. The dual climate control is good is perfect for us in the front and our dog in the back. Braking and steering are good.
The 20 gallon fuel tank on the LWB models comes into its own on long journeys.
Tyre wear is good both front and rear. I got 38000 miles on the standard Yokohama's all still legal when changed. Only changed due to winter caravanning in severe weather conditions. I always have full 4 wheel tracking done every 2 years to make sure all the wheel settings are spot on.
I can fully recommend a Shogun either LWB or SWB as i have owned both in 3.2 auto models.
My Short Wheelbase Model was a 2001 3.2Di-D Auto Equipe. Virtually no difference in mpg between the LWB and the SWB.
Hope this helps .

Same has Hammer on my third Shoggy, now 2007 SWB 3.2 Auto equippe, last one l had for 9 years only exchanged it because we couldnt refuse the part x on the 07 we bought last July, its the same has the other two a dream to tow anything with.
Ferried all the district nurses around this winter here in Cheshire when nothing else was moving, that includes trips up to Buxton from Macclesfield, might be called an old farmers 4x4 but at least it does what it says on the box.
Good old Shoggy won't be without you

I agree. I have a 2002 lwb 3.2 auto and it is a great towcar handles anything you can throw at it, just a bit thirsty.
You wont go far wrong with a shogun !!

Our car was off the road earlier in the year and had the 2010 Shogun for the week with the view of possibly buying one. We were also away in the van.
We did about 220 towing with it and got around 17 mpg which was very dissapointing (we tow a twin axle Elddis) what we found was at 60 the car wanted to stay in 4th on the auto box.Power wise not a problem but engine a bit noisy/gruff
Towed very well and very stable a bit boaty with no van on the back.Lots of kit and very well put together and a big car so loads of room for everyone.

We get 21 to 22 out of our Shogun, if their is a head wind down to 20, l agree a little more thirsty than other 4x4's but will take that for the reliabilty we get from the Shoguns we have had before, mind you this is the first Auto we have had the others being manual, what a difference when towing "brilliant".
One thing make sure at the service they clean the breather pipe on the turbo, if it gets blocked engine management puts it into crawl (which is no more than 25mph) until you have it cleaned out, happened to the wife, luckerley we have recovery who sorted it out, told us if its cleaned on service every twelve months you will have know problem.
