Mondeo Clutch

Has anyone had issues with the clutch on mondeos whilst towing. Great on the move but when manovering round site, levelling etc it 'stinks'. Driving home last night it was slipping when under pressure on hills and the dual carriage way but other than that it was fine.

Any ideas, expensive repaire job?

I had a Mk 2 Mondeo that smelt awful once when backing onto a pitch. If your clutch does go it is most likley the dual mass flywheel element, some manufacturers can supply replacment units without the dual mass elements. You may get a bit more vibration at some reves but I have heard that it may be worth it to get over the DMF effects.

i have a mondeo estate mk3 tdci i have just had the clutch flywheel and slave cylinder changed and the front pads and discs and that came in at just over

i must be doing well with my mk3 zetec s its got 146,000 on the clock and still on original clutch lol

OH no dual mass flywheels- my C% has done 39,000 miles and on 3rd clutch and flywheel, but good news for Mondeo drivers there is a conversion kit back to good old fashioned clutch plates.Dual mass require only a minimal overheat to give up ghost and varies from unit to unit, reversing caravans slipping clutch is like kiss of death to many units.

Graham is you Zetec S a diesel?

No such kit is available for the 2.2 tdci.Although some have been converted using heavy duty 2.2 transit kits but am interested to hear of the single plate conversion for a 2.0 tdci? and who makes it.as fundamentally the kit would have to be exceedingly good to hide the extra clatter one would hear, and also transfer the power without wearing out engine mounts Cranks, gearboxes ect at a greater rate than would have happened with the DMF..

yes my zetec s is a deisel its the 2.0 130bhp 6 speed box.

i guess that could also be true.

dont have a motor mover so always reverse onto the pitch and must say ive never had the clutch burning and smelling.

i think there is a nack to reversing the mondeo lol
