mondeo slapping noise

hi only noticed this when reversing my van onto pitch but now have it all the time when you put the clutch in to take up the drive you get a slap/clunk sound

have taken to dealer who says its the play in the new dual fly wheel and its not a problem i know its not a ford forum but does any one else have this noise mines a 55 plate diesel 130 or is it due to towing many thanks mike
 
I have read that dual mass flywheels are a common failure on Mondeo's & a lot of other modern cars that have them. When they go the symptoms are usually that you can't get any gears. Dodgy dealers then tell the customer that the clutch has gone as this part is not covered by warranty.

Your dealer is telling you porky's that a slapping noise is normal.
 
I used to have one, but mine was a 52 plate. My clutch was noisy and made a variety of noises. I sold it though cos I didnt trust t anymore - It cost a fortune in injectors.

Michael - It sounds to me that the dealer is giving you the classic "Put Off".

I am no expert but what I understand about this common problem on Mondeos. Are you having starting problems? Because another symptom is that the starter ring on the flywheel starts to get chewed up and this leaves a lot of debris to clog up the starter.

You then get told that you need a new starter which just gets clogged up again.

Then when the vehicle is out of warranty you get the proper diagnosis and the whole engine has to come out to replace the DMF.

Very expensive and that is why the dealers try to put it off until you are out of warranty.

I suggest you get it checked out by an independent engineer then go back to your dealer and depending on what the report says insist that the problem is fixed within the three year warranty.

As Glenn says - if it is the DMF - it is not something to ignore!
 
thanks to all that have responded i have now taken it to another ford dealer who has told me it could be gearbox or the dmf and its going in to have the work done shame the first dealer i went to was unrealiable

the reason the starter gets clogged up is down to the flywheel breaking up and the engine does not have to come out to do the clutch and flywheel

the tdci mondeo is not very reliable common faults are injectors,crank pulley clutch and flywheel

the tddi was much more reliable sell it and get a tddi
