I am after a Ford Mondeo 2 litre tdc1 model hatchback as an estate i just cant get hold of a good one and was just wondering what theses are like for towcars and what is the EURO 4, thanks ed

I have a 2004 mondeo hatch 2.0 tdci 130bhp and tow a caravan that weighs 1400kgs. This is an excellent towcar we towed to France with it this summer which was a round trip of around 1200miles without any trouble. The engine is powerful and has enough in reserve for overtaking lorries etc on the motorway. Also the fuel consumption is reasonable whilst towing (about 38mpg) it is also very stable and I would highly recommend it as a towcar.

Are you sure about the 38mpg whilst towing I am not questioning you in anyway the only reason I ask is I am towing around 1,565kg and I tow with a Mercedes 2.2 diesel 2009 I purchased from new with auto box.
On a journey of say 200 miles driving at about 60mph which would average out at about 40mpg my average fuel consumption is around 21/22 miles per gallon.
Which is around 16miles per gallon less than the mondeo of yours so I am at a loss as to why such a big difference I appreciate there would be one due to the fact they are different cars but engine wise very close.
I do normally travel with a Thule roof box and I am beginning to wonder if the drag from this is costing me so much

Mabye if your car has more power or torque it may use more fuel. Hope this helps your enquiry

We've just bought a 2010 Mondeo 2.0 Estate with only 4300 miles on the clock after our 2006 X Trail started having ongoing fuel problems. So far I've only driven about 300 miles since I got it and this includes about 60 miles towing a 1350kg caravan on a mix of roads so I don't have a lot of data yet. What I did find was that solo I get an average of 52mpg and towing I got 32mpg. It towed like a dream including up some fairly steep / long Derbyshire hills.
It is a very comfortable car with tremendous boot space. With the back seats down I don't need the caravan as there is easily enough length to sleep in it !

just got back from my first trip with my 55 plate, 2ltr 130 bhp mondeo and i could not fault it in anyway
i got 44mpg according to the trip computer
i would recommend the car to anyone,im very pleased with it

We used our Kamei roofbox for the first time this year and it improved our consumption from 22 to 26 mpg on a 1.9 TDI galaxy with a 1500kg Indiana I would be delighted to reach 30 let alone 38mpg
i have a 2.0 TDCi zetecs s with the 6 speed box it has 150,000 miles on it im sat at the mo in norfolk and happily got 36mpg on the trip down from sunny Doncaster im only pulling 1215kg but cant fault the car ive had it for 4 yrs and covered most of the miles with no faults other than tyres and brake pads
Don't want to disillusion anybody, but I have never trusted trip computers - found them to be up to 10% optimistic. Ie they can read 3 or 4 mpg better than you are really getting. I always check fuel consumption brim to brim at the pumps.
I have towed with a number of Mondeo 2.0 tdci and currently have 2, towing a 2004 Abbey GTS Vogue 416 I return 32MPG this is calculated by brimming it every time I fill up and doing the maths so accuracy is assured.
