An interesting debate, although some wander off the main point, I just hope caravan users don't want support when our government bring in the road tax for caravans that is being muted in places.

That has been scrapped by the government as not economically viable.

That’s been debated on and off for years now along with MoTs for caravans. The bureaucracy required to introduce such a scheme would most likely outweigh the benefits as caravans here are not registered. Anyway caravanners pay extra to use the roads by their increased fuel consumption and the duties and taxes that go with it. Paying by the mile eh?

The thing is that we already pay higher taxes when towing as there's substantial duty on the extra fuel we use.

Caravans being made to pay VED?

Or more likely motorhome VED is brought inline with domestic vehicle VED, rather than the commercial vehicle rate, as they are no longer used as one ;)

Virtually impossible to police. Would probably cost more to administer than income achieved
