Can anyone tell me what sort of mpg you get solo and towing with the Hyundai Santa Fe Diesel automatic. I know what the brochure says, but I dont believe everything in brochures.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Linda,

We've had our auto Santa Fe for about 12 months and it's now done 15K from new. Around town I get about 25-27mpg, driving solo fm NEC to Kent last month, all motorway driving at about 65-70mph I got a very satisfying 40mpg. Towing our Coachman Amara (1450 kilos) in France last year I averaged about 22-25 mpg.

Hope this helps

How do you find the Santa Fe for towing? a one year old auto is top of my list to replace my Mazda 6, but the caravan club road test was not so kind. everybody else seems to rate them highly.

quote: "There is a proliferation of foot-operated parking brakes these days and I have nothing against them in principle; but the Santa Fe's simply wouldn't hold car and caravan on our 17% hill. That, coupled with a harsh ride, low load capacity and mixed views on high-speed stability, did not endear this car to the judges."

Any comments out there?

Chris,

I can only speak as I find but I am very pleased with ours. It does everything competently without setting the world on fire. It's powerful enough and heavy enough to tow most caravans although I think it would probably struggle a bit if towing anything above about 1700kilos. As far as ride comfort is concerned I found it better than a lot of similar vehicles and front and rear passengers have been quite complimentary, although this could be down to my exceptionally smooth driving skills !! I think it's been said many times in other threads if you want an out and out tow car, the Sorrento would be better, but if like us, 80 - 90% of the time the car is used solo, I would pick the Santa Fe every time. It's nice to drive, reasonably economical, comfortable very roomy and I haven't had any problem with the foot operated parking brake.

linda, we have a 57 plate santa fe cdx 7 seater auto. i totally agree with huw on the mpg in all areas. our santa fe tows our 2008 bailey senator wyoming twin axel with ease. were towing at about 85% so about spot on.

we did go down to south cornwall last year and it has steep hills we did have to put the auto box over to tiptronic to get it up the hills but they were long steep hills and pushing it over made it easier it was no problem then at the top push it back over to auto. you then have the best of both worlds.

ive had no probs with the handbrake pedal at all but i havent had to park my outfit on a steep hill. alot of cars have them now renault, mercs etc.

this tows better than my 07 plate sedona i had. we was going to change it for a volvo xc90 but we would only gain a bigger boot and yes it can tow more but im at 85% now. our santa fe had better spec than the volve we was looking at so we said we would keep this. we love it and have no regrets.

my father in law has just sold his 02 plate santa fe and picks his santa fe gsi 7 seater auto up on tuesday in the dark met blue.

Hello everyone - well, its all academic as my old boss used to say. After seeking all this advice, hubby decided on a Volvo V70 R design. Will take delivery in June so wait till then. Would have loved the Santa Fe but ..............

Thank you everyone for responding.

Safe and happy towing.
