mrs vectra as a second tow car

Hi our main tow car is a2009 galaxy tdci 6sp manual

i was just thinking if i can also use our other car as a tug its a 2001 vectra 2.0 tdi 16v 5spd manual our van is aavondale cheviot and from what little info i can get i is 1375 max

My 02 Vectra 2.0 DTI same model as yours has a kerb weight of 1420kg, 85% (not law) is 1207kg. According to Parkers website max braked limit is 1300kg. I tow a van with max of 1100kg which works out at 77% good fuel consumption and good performance.

Thanks terry i have tried it today took it for a little walk about 20ish miles and it pulled no probs at all but i did notice it felt relly spongey on the back end can i fit spring assiters ? & will this help as i would like it to right in case any probs with galaxy

Given the information you have supplied, The only car the data I could find for 2001Vectra 2.0 Tdi (98 Bhp) list the vehicle as having a kerb weight of 1300 and max towed weight of 1300

Your caravan has an MTPLM of 1375 which gives you're a towing ratio of 1375/1300 = 105%

Even allowing for the fact that the caravan nose load (which I will assume 75Kg) is deducted from the MTPLm and allocated to the car, this mans the full laden caravan is 1300Kg and right at the top limits for the car.

This is very high and not to be recommended
