Hi Jo-anne

Yes - finally and after much thought we have gone for the XT Adventura 173bhp. We liked the Santa Fe (a lot) but we felt that the depreciation was greater on it than the XT and we had dealt with the Nissan garage before. However we haven't ruled out a Santa Fe in the future - it was a lovely car to drive. Many thanks for your comments - this was the trickiest choice we have ever made!

Hi Sarah

You asked whether the 173 is worth getting, rather than the 150bhp. I decided on the 173 for more relaxed towing (hate slowing down on hills) but if only the 150 had been available I'm sure I'd have been happy with that. The main difference is that the 173 has an intercooler, which some people had trouble with on the previous version. But the latest X-T uses a completely different engine (ah but is the turbo and i/cooler the same I hear you say - dunno).

The rear-view camera is cool - but

sarah are the new x-trails 7 seaters?.

jo-anne
They are 5 seaters but at the moment there is a double boot floor with storage between and it wouldn't be a surprise to see a 7 seat option similar to the bigger Nissan taking its place

Be wary of the new X-Trail in automatic form, it has a very low towing limit. It uses the newer CVT type of gearbox which is less reliable under stress than the older types.

Good advice Roger

The petrol XT uses the CVT but the diesel uses a 6 speed auto box

For some reason Nissan have reduced the max tow weight from 2200kg for the 173bhp manual diesel to 1350kg for the 150bhp auto

My friend has a Renault van with the same auto box and that has no weight penalty

He reckons that its the same gearbox as the manual with electronic gear changes

John, if the new diesel X-Trail uses a conventional automatic box and has a similar towing limit to the manual, then it's changed since launch last year.

Having seen the X-Trail at launch I was interested enough to book a test drive in a diesel automatic, arranged through Nissan UK, until I saw the low towing limit.

If they're unhappy about using the petrol engines' torque when towing with the CVT autobox then I'm not surprised they dropped it for the diesel and reverted to a conventional autobox. Even then the diesel automatic is only available with the 150 engine, not the 173.

Hi Roger I didn't say that the diesel auto has the same tow weight as the manual because as you stated and I quantified(1350kg) it has amuch reduced tow limit

I also agree with you about the power of the diesel engine but that is what I thought I was saying---or trying tosay!!

"For some reason Nissan have reduced the max tow weight from 2200kg for the 173bhp manual diesel to 1350kg for the 150bhp auto"

I think that we are both saying the same thing
